Description
Hubert de Bouard (Chateau Angélus) is co-owner of this Saint Emilion Grand Cru Classé. Bellevue has the vineyard with a south-southwest exposure on the slope between three Premier Cru Classés (Ch. Beauséjour Bécot, Ch. Beauséjour Duffau Lagarosse and Ch. Angélus)! The vineyard covers 6.82 hectares with a terroir of clay-limestone and limestone. The yields are particularly low (24hl/ha). Only 1500 cases of this beautiful wine are produced! The Bellevue is a very affordable Grandcru from St Emilion and is therefore very popular considering quality versus price. The vineyard of Château Bellevue consists exclusively of the Merlot grape variety.
The wine has an intense ruby red color with purple reflections in the glass. This St Emilion has refined wood nuances, delicate coconut, black wild berries supported by a hint of plum, fresh fig and a little nougat. Complex, juicy, close texture, fresh cherries, ripe integrated tannins, very balanced. Has good aging potential.

Unfurling in the glass with aromas of crème de cassis, sweet spices, loamy soil and creamy new oak, the 2019 Bellevue is medium to full-bodied, lively and tensile, with a bright spine of acidity and long, mineral finish. It will likely flesh out with a bit of bottle age.

Aromas of currants, black mushrooms and rose petals follow through to a full body with chewy tannins and a long, persistent finish. This is very structured and powerful. Under the radar. Give it at least three years to soften. Try after 2024.

Château Bellevue, a Grand Cru Classé located in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation, is owned by the Pradel de Lavaux family. The Château Bellevue vineyard occupies a single block of 3 hectares (7.41 acres) and consists exclusively of the Merlot grape variety. Located on one of the finest terroirs in Saint-Emilion, and with some of the great Premiers Grands Crus Classés as close neighbours, the vineyard stretches seamlessly across both slopes and plateau.
Château Bellevue offers beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The park, with both Mediterranean and Atlantic vegetation, offers an oasis of unique biodiversity in the heart of the vineyard. While strolling through this magical place, visitors can discover a beautiful 17th century chartreuse with balustraded terraces and a rich heritage that traces the history of Saint-Emilion's vines and wine.
