The 17-hectare Weingut Münzberg is located in Landau in der Pfalz, near the French border in Alsace, about 40 km northwest of Karlsruhe. The relatively small domain produces only about 120,000 bottles per year. Since the purchase of the first vineyard by founder Jakob Kessler at the end of the last century, the domain has been owned by the Kessler family. Today, Gunter Kessler is in charge. The winery also owes its name to the discovery of a Roman coin in its top vineyard. These are very gastronomic wines with a Burgundian profile.
The Münzberg Chardonnay Godramsteiner Kalkmergel comes from a vineyard in Godramstein, on calcareous Keuper soil with a high clay content, about 40 km northwest of Karlsruhe in the Palatinate (on the border with France). The Chardonnay matures for 12 months in new and 2nd year oak barrels, followed by 12 months in bottle aging. The Godramsteiner Lime Marl has a straw yellow color in the glass. In the nose we smell notes of yellow fruit, nutty, slightly vegetal with earthy nuances. Ripe, round, fruity notes in the mouth, with light notes of walnut, toast and butter, followed by a long, filmy finish with pleasant freshness. A great accompaniment to smoked and fried fish, seafood, pasta with creamy rich sauces
FACT: The wine has all received high ratings at Falstaff 2022

Weißer Burgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris) are mainly grown on the domain. But Chardonnay, Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) also feel at home here. The Chardonnay and Spätburgunder are fermented and matured here in wooden barriques of local “Palatinate oak”. The winery also owes its name to the discovery of a Roman coin in its top vineyard. These are very gastronomic wines with a Burgundian profile.
