Description
The 17-hectare Weingut Münzberg is located in Landau in der Pfalz, on the French border in Alsace, about 40 km northwest of Karlsruhe. The relatively small estate produces only about 120,000 bottles per year. Since the purchase of the first vineyard by founder Jakob Kessler at the end of the last century, the estate has been owned by the Kessler family. Today, Gunter Kessler is in charge. Incidentally, the winery owes its name to the discovery of a Roman coin in its top vineyard. These are very gastronomic wines with a Burgundian profile.
The Weingut Münzberg Spätburgunder VDP. Gutswein ferments and matures here in wooden barriques of local "Palatinate oaks. The Pinot Noir comes from various vineyards in Landau and Godramstein on Clay Keuper and limestone marl soils, all located in the Lanau region in the Palatinate about 40 km northwest of Karlsruhe. The grapes ferment on stainless steel and are then matured for 12 months in small (4th & 5th year) oak barriques. This is a delicious dry fruity, juicy wine. Light earthy nose with many (mainly red) berries and light vegetal aromas with a little pepper. In the mouth red fruit with light nuttiness and mushrooms, with fine, lively acids, a pleasantly light, fresh pallet with mild tannins and a juicy finish. Recommended with stews such as Osso Bucco, Saltimbocca and steaks/fillet of pork and veal.
FACT: The wines have all received high ratings on Falstaff 2022

The 17-hectare Weingut Münzberg is located in Landau in der Pfalz, near the French border in Alsace, about 40 km northwest of Karlsruhe. The relatively small domain produces only about 120,000 bottles per year. Since the purchase of the first vineyard by founder Jakob Kessler at the end of the last century, the domain has been owned by the Kessler family. Today, Gunter Kessler is in charge.
Weißer Burgunder (Pinot Blanc) and Grauer Burgunder (Pinot Gris) are mainly grown on the domain. But Chardonnay, Riesling and Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) also feel at home here. The Chardonnay and Spätburgunder are fermented and matured here in wooden barriques of local “Palatinate oak”. The winery also owes its name to the discovery of a Roman coin in its top vineyard. These are very gastronomic wines with a Burgundian profile.
