The technical manager is Eduardo Garcia, son of the famous winemaker Mariano Garcia (Mauro, Aalto, Vega Sicilia). The Garmon is very expressive, full-bodied, complex fruit and gossamer structure. The wine is a 100% Tempranillo from vineyards ranging from 30 to 100 years in the region of La Aguilera and Moradillo on a terroir with predominantly clay-limestone soils and sandy-loamy soil. Yields are very low (but very good). This full bodied red concentrated wine has been barrel aged for 16 months with clear notes of black fruit, cocoa, minerals with well developed tannins and a nice, long finish. Powerful, very friendly and very balanced natural acidity. Wonderful aromatic depth and structure in the mouth, with soft tannins. A topper!

For the first time, the 2021 Garmón contains 5% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend with Tempranillo from different villages and zones within Ribera del Duero. They work small plots of old vines and old clones that have a longer cycle. The grapes ferment from 12 to 16 days with indigenous yeasts, and the wine matured in French oak barrels for 22 months. Despite the high altitude of the majority of vineyards here, the wine feels riper than the 2021s from Mauro, and the oak is more evident tin the nose. It's spicy, toasty and smoky, with a medium to full-bodied palate with abundant, slightly dusty tannins. Wait a bit to pull the cork, and enjoy with heathy, powerful food. 50,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2023.
Garmón Continental is the Ribera del Duero project from the García family from Mauro and San Román. Here they produce a very classical wine, one single label from their 20 hectares of vineyards in the villages of La Aguilera, Moradillo, Baños, Tubilla and Anguix in the province of Burgos and Valbuena and Olivares in Valladolid. Production averages 50,000 bottles.

From: Ribera del Duero: A Shifting Frontier for Spanish Wine (Nov 2023)
The 2021 Garmón is primarily Tempranillo with a 5% dash of Cabernet Sauvignon from Ribera del Duero, aged for 20 months in French oak barrels. A dark garnet-red in hue. The nose presents notes of cherry, plum and hints of violet, along with black tea and subtle ashy undertones. Dry and relatively rich, the juicy, chalky palate leads to a long-lasting, flavorful finish. This is a Ribera del Duero wine that drew inspiration from Bordeaux.

Garmón's debut vintage was in 2014. Located in Quintanilla de Onésimo, Ribera del Duero, Garmón produces one wine a year. However, they are developing a second line, which I had the opportunity to sample from barrel. The wine is an upgrade to Garmón's red, and as of my visit, it didn't have a name yet. Essentially, Garmón is Tempranillo, but since the 2020 vintage, they've integrated Bordeaux varieties into their reds. Favoring a meticulous, cosmopolitan style, winemaker Eduardo García adeptly tames Tempranillo's tannins while preserving its energy and character.

The new project of the García family is called Garmón, the acronym for the surnames of the two sons of Mariano García: Alberto and Eduardo García Montaña. A name that gives an idea about the family and the traditional character of this winery. With Garmon Continental, the Garcias complete their specific trilogy of wines and vineyards in the Douro Valley - Mauro (Tudela de Duero) and San Román (Toro) - with an exciting and exclusive fully familiar vineyard project with tempranillo or red fine as protagonist, and that will be no more than 80,000 bottles per year.
Built on a plot of 3 ha in the "Pago de la Barca" in front of the Duero, garmon Continental is located in a space of 2000 square meters, divided over several modular buildings around a large central courtyard.
