Description
Elvio Cogno is located on top of Bricco Ravera, a hill near Novello in the Langhe area of Piedmont. This is one of the eleven municipalities where Barolo is produced. The cellar is located in an 18th century manor house, the farm is surrounded by 11 hectares of vineyards. The Cogno family has been making wine in the Langhe area for 4 generations. The history and tradition were passed down by father Elvio and the innovation was introduced by his daughter Nadia and her husband Valter Fissore. And daughter Elena? Today, he is responsible for the sleek and stylish house style of the domain. Learned young, shall we say. They only grow native grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nascetta.
Elvio Cogno's flagships are the Ravera and Bricco Pernice from the historic vineyards of Ravera and each one of the best in the region. Ravera sits in a beautiful amphitheater of vines. This is a thoroughly classic vintage, solid and sturdy in texture. The bouquet is already expression. It is bursting with dark fruit, smoke, spice and licorice. This Barolo shows all the qualities that guarantee a long and successful cellar evolution. Only 4,000 bottles were made. The wine has had a fermentation and maceration time of 40 days!! and matures in peace in large Slavonian oak barrels for 30 months.

The Elvio Cogno 2018 Barolo Ravera is becoming one of the most important wines in Novello, and it performs very nicely in this more challenging vintage. In fact, 2018 helps to cement Ravera's steadfast reputation precisely because it performs so well despite spells of humidity and heat. The wine shows small-berry detailing with rust and crushed stone at the back. There is a point of bitterness that accompanies the tannins of this full-bodied wine. Production is 15,000 bottles.

Thanks to careful management of the vineyard, a low yield per hectare with respect for the biological balance, high-quality grapes are created. Balanced, elegant wines with a classic character.
In 2014, Elvio Cogno was voted “winery of the year” for the 4th (!) Time by the renowned American wine magazine “Wines & Spirits”. A very prestigious award that again places this winery among the top 100 best vineyards in the world.
