Description
Elvio Cogno is located on top of Bricco Ravera, a hill near Novello in the Langhe area of Piedmont. This is one of the eleven municipalities where Barolo is produced. The cellar is located in an 18th century manor house, the farm is surrounded by 11 hectares of vineyards. The Cogno family has been making wine in the Langhe area for 4 generations. The history and tradition were passed down by father Elvio and the innovation was introduced by his daughter Nadia and her husband Valter Fissore. And daughter Elena? Today, he is responsible for the sleek and stylish house style of the domain. Learned young, shall we say. They only grow native grape varieties: Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nascetta.
The Barolo Cascina Nuova 2018 is refined with many notes of red and black currants, cassis, grilled herbs and crushed stone in the nose. The aromas are quite classic but what stands out here is the immediacy and freshness. The tannins are already well packed and are certainly still present when young, but as befits a Nebbiolo but they already have a silky character and that makes this 2018 vintage very elegant and refined.

Thanks to careful management of the vineyard, a low yield per hectare with respect for the biological balance, high-quality grapes are created. Balanced, elegant wines with a classic character.
In 2014, Elvio Cogno was voted “winery of the year” for the 4th (!) Time by the renowned American wine magazine “Wines & Spirits”. A very prestigious award that again places this winery among the top 100 best vineyards in the world.
