Description
The La Chapelle de La Mission - 2nd vin du Château la Mission-Haut-Brion is, as the name indicates, the second wine from this famous house from Pessac Léognan. The La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion 2023 is composed of 48.3% Merlot, 39.4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12.3% Cabernet Franc.
The harvest of red grapes started on September 6, under good weather conditions, although it was very hot. The grapes were ripe and concentrated for all varieties, with an abundance of phenolic compounds rarely seen before and very good sugar content. The juices were fresh and fruity. The bountiful harvest extended over 20 days for all plots and under summer weather conditions. 21.2% in new wooden barrels.
The color of this wine is a strong, dark purple. The first nose has intensity, but after rolling it reveals notes of delicate woody ripe fruit. A beautiful balance. In the mouth the first taste is fresh, broad and tasty. The wine has a relatively long finish and offers a sensational pleasure for a second wine. A truly beautiful Chapelle.

The 2023 La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion offers up aromas of blueberries, cassis and dark wild berries. Medium-bodied, long and fleshy, it’s nicely integrated, with a dense core of fruit, youthfully firm tannins and a persistent finish. Deeper and more structured than usual, it will regards some patience. This is a blend of 48.3% Merlot, 39.4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12.3% Cabernet Franc.

Country: France
Region: Bordeaux
Vintage: 2023
Score: 95-96
The solid center-palate and sure nature says La Mission, as it should, being the second wine of the estate. Medium body with a creamy and refined tannin structure that is long and true. Oyster-shell and blackcurrant character, as well as crushed stones. Direct. 48.3% merlot, 39.4% cabernet sauvignon and 12.3% cabernet franc.

Drinking Window: 2026 - 2043
The 2023 La Chapelle de La Mission Haut-Brion is a potent yet accessible second wine. Soft contours add to its considerable appeal. Crushed flowers, spice and sweet pipe tobacco lift a core of red-toned fruit in this racy, sensual Chapelle. Attractive floral and cinnamon notes linger. The 2023 is all charm—I expect it will drink well with minimal cellaring.
