Description
Mysterious and unknown, the Bat or Ratpenat is absolutely essential to a balanced ecosystem. The bat is the only flying mammal on Earth. Its notable biological characteristics include its longevity (bats can live for more than 40 years) and the ability to consume 600 to 1,200 insects per hour. The white wine Ratpenat (the Catalan word for "bat") was born from an agreement between Celler Credo and the Granollers Natural Science Museum to work together to protect the environment and the animals that inhabit it. The agreement between the two, initiated in 2013, supports projects aimed at raising public awareness of the importance of bats in the ecosystem, where it plays a valuable role as an efficient insectivore. Celler Credo is part of Recaredo - the iconic producer famous for its long aged cavas. The still (organic) wines are sold under the Celler Credo label
Celler Credo has partnered with top growers in the Penedès region with whom we share values and a commitment to sustainable viticulture rooted in respect for identity, territory and landscape. Ratpenat, the wine resulting from this collaboration, is made with grapes from a single vineyard in the north of Piera, with a soil composed of shiny shale (phyllites) and quartz gravel - absolutely unique in the Penedès region. The vineyard, with a total of just two hectares of bush-trained vines, is located in a small valley known as La Riera Seca. The Macebo (or Viura) vines are 30 years old. All Celler Credo grapes are harvested by hand to ensure the excellent quality of the fruit. All our wines are produced and bottled on site. The must fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks on our own yeasts from the Celler Credo vineyards, an essential element for producing real terroir wines. After fermentation, the wine matures for a month in oak barrels, after which it rests in barrels for six months. This wine can contain natural sediments due to the minimal intervention. 92/100 Parker. Only 5,000 bottles are made of this only 2HA mini vineyard and this wine excels in fraicheur, elegance with a great minerality. A white Rioja in style and then of a very high level which, as the connoisseurs know, can age very nicely
The name Ratpenat came about because this vineyard and the rocks in the valley that surrounds it have been home to a protected species of bat for centuries and this also explains the great logo that they have devised to put the name upside down on the label.
FACT: We also have a beautiful Grandcruwijnen Bat Bird Box. This is made from the wood of original wine boxes from famous wineries.
Pressed wine April 2022 — 4.5* in the Catalunya, Navarra and Aragón Special
"Fragrance: broad, hazelnuts, toast, butter, nougat. Taste: powerful, nice acidity, depth, youthful, dry."

The 2018 Ratpenat (which means "bat" in Catalan) is a pure Macabeo from a vineyard planted in 1990 on slate soils, a rarity in Penedès, as most of the soils are limestone-based. This wine was previously produced with grapes from one of their other vineyards before they found this one. The wine is completely different from what they used to get with the grapes with limestone soils (which I had never tasted before). It's deep, elegant, mineral and original, quite unique. It matured in barrique with bâtonnage for one and a half months and then rested in stainless steel until it was bottled in May 2019. 5,000 bottles produced.
Celler Credo, the still-wine project from the Recaredo winery famous for its sparkling wines, keeps growing and experimenting with other grapes and soils.

Recaredo Corpinnat is without doubt a reference for long-aged cavas and, together with Mestres and Gramona, is considered the Grandcru and the top of the cavas. Recaredo also has a silent white wine project and these wines are made under the Celler Credo name. Celler Credo or 'free-of-mind' label from Recaredo. With these still white wines, the Recaredo team discovers what is possible with Xarel.lo from different teroirs and vinification methods.
Impeccable Vins Natural! Recaredo has acquired a number of (very) special vineyards in the Penedès region for the production of refined natural wines. The aim is a pure expression of Xarel.lo where different fermentation methods and maturation processes are used. The wines are made by the well-known winemakers Nuria Arteaga and Ton Mata and they know exactly how to strike the right chord and make particularly pure and energetic wines from Xarel.lo, whereby the wines, as also with the Cavas from Recaredo, have become benchmark wines for ' nature' style Xarel.lo in the Penedès. Aged on the lees, macerated with the skin or stems of the grape, without the addition of sulphites – modern techniques or techniques learned from our grandparents... In short, a thousand and one ways to interpret Xarel-lo. In other words, Xarel-lo is the Credo.
