This 2018 Cave de Tain Hermitage Blanc Au Coeur des Siècles is known for its richness and power, with a balanced freshness that prevents it from feeling too heavy. Aromas of apricot and peach dominate, with subtle hints of butter and honey. On the palate it offers a deep, rich taste with a good balance between fruitiness and minerality. ABOUT CAVE DE TAIN
Without a doubt the top in the Hermitage and the Crozes Hermitage. In the Cave de Tain, around 370 farmers are united in a company with vision, passion for quality and a feel for the market. In the northern Rhône, they are leading with a share of more than 50% of the production. The vineyards are located on both the right bank, St.-Joseph, Cornas and St.-Peray, and on the left bank, Crozes Hermitage and Hermitage, of the Rhône and are located a maximum of 20 kilometers from the Cave. For many international winemakers, the wines produced here are the reference for their Syrah production. The crown jewels of the company are its own vineyards on the Hermitage mountain. The steep terraced vineyards with a granite soil bring out the best in the Syrah grape. International assessments between 90 and 100 points are "normal" for these wines. Cave de Tain owns no less than 25% of this unique piece of wine-growing area. Read more in the Tab: Winery

A selection of 80-year-old vines, the 2018 Hermitage Blanc Au Coeur des Siècles is a blend of 92% Marsanne and 8% Roussanne. Fermentation kicks off in tank and is completed in 400-liter oak barrels (45% new) where the wine stays for eight months. Brassy-hued in the glass, with the oak nicely incorporated into aromas of honey, ripe peaches, grilled pineapple and flamed orange zest. It's full-bodied in the mouth, concentrated and weighty on the palate, with ripe flavors and a rich, silky texture that fan out on the lengthy finish. If I were going to pick one of the cooperative's white cuvées for cellaring, this would be it, but it's by no means necessary.
In a region most consumers associate with small family domaines, the Cave de Tain is the big kid on the block. Founded in 1933 by Gambert de Loche and now comprising approximately 300 members, it accounts for roughly half the production of Crozes-Hermitage and itself owns some 22 hectares of Hermitage. It now has growers representing all of the appellations in the Northern Rhône and does an admirable job turning those grapes into wine at its huge facility in Tain l'Hermitage. With the lineup recently reorganized and streamlined, most appellations offer a primary wine, Nobles Rives, and one or more "selections parcellaires," which are meant to showcase a particular terroir.

Translucent yellow-gold. Dried pear, peach liqueur and lemon peel on the deeply perfumed, mineral-accented nose. Chewy and focused on the palate, offering concentrated pit and orchard fruit, toasted hazelnut and honey flavors that are braced by a spine of juicy acidity. Loosens up very slowly with air, taking on a floral nuance and a hint of chalky minerality. Finishes very long and sappy, displaying repeating florality and a hint of bergamot. These Marsanne vines are over 100 years old.

On the left bank of the Rhône, between Lyon and Valence, the Hermitage hill dominates the Crozes-Hermitage appellation. From north to south, the vineyards of Saint-Joseph, Cornas and Saint-Péray spread out on terraces, on the right bank.
On their five cru vineyards, such as in Collines Rhodaniennes, the winegrowers of the Cave de Tain l'Hermitage offer an unparalleled variety of vineyard plantations, with access to all terroirs.
