Description
2017 was a very low-yielding and warm year, and the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for the 2017 ViƱedo Chadwick were harvested earlier than ever in early March to avoid excessive ripeness and maintain good freshness. This has the classic minty Maipo profile, with more grip, concentration and tannin ā polished, fine-grained tannin ā than the 2016. It has good weight and combines power with elegance, in a clean and classic style. The oak is beautifully integrated and in 2014 they even started using larger foudres of 2,500 liters for the Cabernet Sauvignon; the profile of the wine has changed towards more integration and less presence of the oak aromas and flavors. This is textbook Maipo Cabernet Sauvignon with a little touch of Petit Verdot in an elegant way.
The Chadwick always receives high scores (Parker 96+) but most impressed was James Suckling, who again gave the 2017 a perfect score (100/11). The pure fruit and juicy tannins are so juicy and tempting. Full body and soft, silky tannins. Completely. Everything is where it should be. Ripe fruit and spicy acidity provide energy and balance. I like the finish. Precise and fine-grained texture. 100 points

Even if I like the style of the 2016 very much, I'll give the edge to this 2017. 7,126 bottles were filled in February 2019.
I had already published the note for the phenomenal 2017 just before the wine was released through the nƩgoce in Bordeaux in September 2019, but I thought it should also be included here in the context of the current releases from Chile.
Like SeƱa, ViƱedo Chadwick is also a separate project from the owner of ErrƔzuriz. The reason why is mainly because this comes from a vineyard in Alto Maipo, the classical zone for Cabernet Sauvignon in Chile, not in the Aconcagua Valley.

The pure fruit and juicy tannins are so succulent and enticing. Full body and soft, silky tannins. Complete. Everything is where it should be. Ripe fruit and tangy acidity provide energy and balance. Love the finish. Precise and fine-grained texture. Cabernet sauvignon with a touch of petit verdot. Try after 2023. 800 cases made.

From: ViƱedo Chadwick: 21 Years of Cabernet Sauvignon from Puente Alto (Aug 2022)
The 2017 ViƱedo Chadwick was made during a warm year that was dealt with well here. The wine is a blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon and 4% Petit Verdot harvested from March 10 onward, resulting in 13.5% alcohol and aged for 22 months in 80% new barrels, a fifth in foudres. Purple in the glass. The nose presents red fruit, both fresh and ripe, a few herbal notes, blackcurrant jam and cedar. In the mouth, itās relaxed with grippy, juicy tannins and a lovely freshness that keeps things balanced in spite of the power. An intense wine.

Chile deserves the top prize of all 'new' wine countries. Mainly due to the fact that the wines of this country have found a connection with the taste of many wine lovers, wherever in the world, at a record pace. There are of course special reasons for this success. The climate and soil type are ideal here and the classic European grape varieties were already present. Yet it is mainly thanks to the vision of people like Eduardo Chadwick-ErrÔzuriz that these benefits were so quickly translated into resounding success. Exactly 140 years ago, Maximiano ErrÔzuriz planted his vineyard in Panquehue, at the foot of the highest mountain in the Andes chain. The cool fall winds, proximity to the Aconcagua River and annual rainfall of only 25 cm make this an ideal area for wine growing. His great-grandson Eduardo Chadwick-ErrÔzuriz has added a number of plots since 1990; they are planted with the grape varieties that best suit the specific soil and microclimate. As a result, in addition to the classic cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay, the merlot, shiraz and carmenère also benefit from this earthly paradise for wine growing. Viña ErrÔzuriz has since grown to become the absolute top of Chilean wine producers.
