Description
Corimbo from Bodegas La Horra is the latest wine adventure from Bodegas Roda, known for its beautiful Rioja wines. The wine company here in the Ribera del Duero is called Bodegas La Horra. The Corimbo comes from the golden mile in the Ribera del Duero valley. The project was started in 2006 and the first vintage was vinified in 2008. Construction of the new bodega started in 2012. Corimbo is a botanical term. When the thistle flower blooms horizontally, we call it a Corimbo. A Corimbo would be quite rare.
The Corimbo I is the top model of Bodegas La Horra (in line with their Roda line such as the Roda and Roda I). The wine matures for 14 months in 80% French and 20% American oak. For 1/3 new oak barrels. The Corimbo I is deep red in color. Youthful aromas of blueberry, density, must be rolled in the glass to release all its scents. A discreet spiciness emerges, but with no trace of barrel aging. Juicy in the mouth, lots of everything, great attack, tasty. With the second sip we notice more structure, depth and the Ribera character unfolds more. Nevertheless, the Corimbo I has a certain Roda identity.

Similar to its younger brother, the top-of-the-range 2016 Corimbo I shows superbly, more old style Ribera del Duero, with power and rusticity but also elegance and balance. It has a nose that is complex and subtle, floral and spicy. It's medium-bodied and balanced, with a chalky texture and velvety mouthfeel. It's still a little tannic, but the tannins are fine and elegant and should benefit from some more time in bottle. This has to be one of the finest vintages they have produced in Ribera del Duero.
The two wines from Roda in Ribera del Duero, Bodegas La Horra, come from two very good, cooler years, 2018 and 2016, and the wines showed better than ever—elegant, fresh and with integrated oak.
Bodegas La Horra is the winery in Ribera del Duero from Roda in Rioja. They work 50 hectares of vineyards and produce two wines.

Fresh and creamy with blackberries, cedar and some pine cone and vanilla. Broad and full body, piled with fine-grained tannins that frame the blackberries, dark chocolate and spices on the palate. Tight and youthful. Better to give it two years to settle. Drink from 2024.

The 2017 Corimbo I Reserva spent 16 months in 80% French and 20% American barrels. Garnet-red in the glass. The nose offers herbs and flor initially followed by dark fruit, hints of undergrowth and a developing bouquet. Dry and rich on the palate with a somewhat clingy flow, the tannins are a little feisty at the end. This is a characterful red.
