2016 Umani Ronchi Cumaro Conero Riserva DOCG
This story began more than half a century ago in Cupramontana, in the heart of Verdicchio Classico. Today the Umani Ronchi wine estate is owned by the Bianchi-Bernetti family. Three wine zones - Castelli di Jesi, Conero and Abruzzo - and numerous vineyards are spread over 10 districts. A total of 210 ha have been planted with Verdicchio and Montepulciano which are best expressed in Marche and Abruzzo. The 185 km of vines are nestled between the hills and the Adriatic coast, each with its unique characteristics and terroir. Umani Ronchi has doubled his estate and replanted 85% of his old vines since the 1970s. They invested in Verdicchio and Rosso Conero and restored the Pecorino and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba varieties. Their vineyards are also all organically farmed. This is a technical decision rather than an ideological consideration. The vines bloom in such a way that there is room for a viticulture that gets the best out of the grapes without sacrificing the quality of the wines.
The Umani Ronchi Cumaro Conero Riservai is a 100% Montepulciano. The vines are planted on a soil of lime and clay and the vineyard is located in the municipality of Osima and is located south-east at an altitude of 150 meters. The vineyards are sheltered and have sea view which explains the unique and fresh character and elegant character of this beautiful red wine. The grapes are picked by hand in mid to late October. The alcoholic fermentation takes place for 12-14 days, followed by a malolactic fermentation in 225 liter barriques for 12-14 months. After bottling, the wine rests for 8 months in the bottle.
The Umani Ronchi Cumaro Conero Riserva has a beautiful ruby red color with beautiful notes of ripe plums, black currants, cherries, spices and vanilla in the nose. The attack is soft and mouth-filling, followed by a long, intense finish with soft tannins. The Cumaro, quite rightly, always receives rave reviews from international wine. 91/100 Suckling & 93/100 Parker
