Description
Domaine Leflaive is one of the most prestigious wineries in Burgundy, best known for its exceptional white wines, made from Chardonnay grapes. Located in the village of Puligny-Montrachet, in the Côte de Beaune, Domaine Leflaive is known for its commitment to biodynamic viticulture and its emphasis on expressing the unique terroir.
Les Combettes is a Premier Cru vineyard in Puligny-Montrachet, located near other well-known vineyards such as Les Referts and Les Perrières. Its location on a gently sloping hillside and chalky soils are ideal for producing complex and structured Chardonnay wines. The terroir of Les Combettes often gives the wines a balance between richness and freshness, with a pronounced minerality. The Les Combettes parcel has the highest average vine age of all the 1er Crus and is located just south of Domaine Leflaive's Meursault vineyard.
The 2016 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Combettes is one of the finest of Leflaive's 2016 vintages. It's packed with aromas of pear, toasted nuts and white flowers, framed by some new oak. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, broad-shouldered and textural, with juicy acidity, excellent depth at the core and a muscular, meaty profile.

The 2015 Puligny Montrachet 1er Cru Combettes is another terrific bottling from this famous domaine, opening in the glass with a classic bouquet of apple, pear, lime, grapefruit pith and almond cream. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, glossy and deep at the core, its great concentration and chewy extract underpinned by succulent acids, its finish pure and precise. In style, Combettes tends to nod to Bâtard-Montrachet, but like this year's Bâtard, this remains beautifully controlled and poised despite its undeniable mid-palate heft.
