Vietti is absolutely a top domain. The robust Barolos and Barberas from Mario Cordero are world class and very rare! The quality is phenomenal and consistent across the entire range. Vietti is the only producer who owns vineyards in the eleven villages that are allowed to produce Barolo. They were the first to replant the forgotten local white grape “Arneis”. They were also pioneers in bottling “single vineyard” Baroli. This was the legendary 1961 Barolo Rocche. By being one of the first wine estates to export to the US, Vietti quickly became a big name in the Piemonte region and now all single vineyard Barolos are issued on allocation and only a handful of bottles are ever available per country. The potential of their wines is unprecedented and from the good years this is 30 years+.

The Vietti 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a sharply defined and refined expression of Nebbiolo, from one of the most prestigious crus of Castiglione Falletto. This wine excels in precision and layering, with aromas that gradually open up in the glass to reveal a fascinating complexity. The nose is direct and expressive, with a unique combination of ferrous-mineral notes, cherry-cola and red berries such as redcurrant. This is supported by a pronounced chalky minerality, which gives the wine an almost electric tension. As it develops, subtle nuances of dried flowers, purple blossoms and iris emerge, contributing to the refined and elegant aromatic structure.

This Barolo shows a tight and defined structure, with a striking balance between freshness and depth. The chalky tannins feel abrupt at this youthful stage, but at the same time indicate that this wine is built to endure long maturation. Despite its firm structure, there is a layering and elegance that reveals new dimensions with every sip. The acidity is lively, keeping the wine fresh and energetic, even in its most powerful moments.

The Rocche di Castiglione vineyard is located in Castiglione Falletto, an area renowned for its exceptional Nebbiolo expressions. This terroir combines the power and structure of Serralunga d'Alba with the elegance and finesse typical of La Morra. The chalky and mineral-rich soils contribute to the sharp and linear style of this wine, which will develop beautifully in the coming decades. The Vietti 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione undergoes traditional vinification, followed by long maturation in large oak barrels. This provides a subtle wood influence that supports the complexity of the wine without overpowering the fruit or mineral notes. The wine develops slowly and will reveal more depth and refinement in the coming years.

This powerful and mineral Barolo goes well with dishes with intense flavours and complex textures, such as:

Slow-cooked ossobuco with saffron risotto, grilled entrecote with rosemary and sea salt, tajarin with white truffle from Piedmont and matured cheeses such as Castelmagno or an old Pecorino Toscano

With a limited production of only 3,512 bottles, the Vietti 2020 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is an exclusive and coveted wine, ideal for collectors and lovers of great Barolos.

Vietti is definitely a top domain. Mario Cordero's robust Barolos and Barberas are world class and very scarce! In addition, he brings an extremely good Nebbiolo to the market with the Nebbiolo Langhe Perbacco. This is sufficiently available and very affordable. This also applies to the crisp, fresh, soft-sweet Moscato d'Asti. And then of course there is the story behind the labels... Since 1974, a select number of Vietti wines (since 1988 only the Barolo Riserva Villero) are labeled with a specially designed, original work of art. The print run of the artwork is equal to the number of bottles of the wine in question that are made in this vintage. The first hundred labels are also signed by the artist himself, so real collector's items!

The history of the Vietti family as a wine company goes back to the 19th century. In the early years, grapes were grown, but they were sold to the Coöperatie and other winegrowers. Only at the beginning of the 20th century did the family decide to start making their own wine. In recent years, no one in Piedmont has set the bar higher than Vietti. All their wines are of exceptionally high quality. Winemaker Luca Currado built on the success of his parents Alfredo and Lucia. The quality is phenomenal and consistent across the entire range. Vietti is the only producer who owns vineyards in the eleven villages allowed to produce Barolo. They were the first to replant the forgotten local white grape “Arneis”. In addition, they were pioneers in bottling "single vineyard" Baroli. This was the legendary 1961 Barolo Rocche one of the better wine companies in Piemonte. By being one of the first wine estates to export to the US, Vietti quickly became a big name in the Piemonte region. The Vietti wines come from grapes from the Castiglione Falletto vineyards, the heart of the Barolo zone. The qualities of sandy calcareous soil in this area give a unique complexity and beautiful tannins to the elegant wines. The average age of the vines is between 30 and 70 years.
