Description
One of the top producers from Friuli and one of the most famous makers of Italian white is undoubtedly Silvio Jermann. The Jermann family estate is located in the far northeast of Italy in the hilly region of Friuli, near the Slovenian border, in the DOC Collio, and dates back to 1881. Since Silvio, the third generation, took over in 1975, a huge upheaval has taken place. By continuously investing and making optimum use of the sandy and marl soil so suitable for the white grape varieties, he expressed his urge for innovation, with fantastic results. As a result, he grew into a global phenomenon. Elegance, depth, richness, structure and minerality characterize his wines, which are served in many star restaurants worldwide.
Capo Martino is the name of the hill that Silvio Jermann bought in 1991 in the municipality of Dolegna del Collio and that was already used as an observation point during the war. The vineyard of the same name covers 7.5 hectares and was renovated from 1996 to 2003, although the traditional local varieties were preserved.
This top wine was born from the idea of obtaining a blend of different varieties, vinified in the traditional way as his father Angelo did, with a short maceration on the skins, fermented and aged in oak barrels for about 10 months and released two years after the harvest". The Jermann is one of the rare high-ends of Jermann. It is a blend of local white grape varieties. The different local grape varieties are fermented in the traditional way, with a short maceration on the skins. Then the wine matures for 12-16 months in Slavonian oak barrels. Two years after the harvest the wine is released on the market.
The Capo Martino is a beautiful golden yellow colour, brilliant and luminous. The nose is intense and complex, with notes of ripe fruit – Mediterranean and tropical – and dried flowers, barely touched by a subtle veil of vanilla. Apples, bananas, hazelnuts, genista and passion flower stand out. In the mouth it is pure velvet, with a perfect balance of flavours, delicate aromatic qualities, endless persistence. Excellent with chickpea puree and fried octopus with rosemary.
