Description
The Trinite Estate Acaibo from Gonzague and Claire Lurton is a blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 6% Merlot. In the glass the 2015 Trinite Estate Acaibo is medium to deep ruby purple with in the nose notes of cedar and graphite with bitter chocolate, dried herbs and a stylish and elegant frame with new oak spice. On the palate the wine is full bodied, mineral with a great fruit core, firm, pleasantly tough tannins and seamless freshness. The aftertaste is long and layered. Very (burgundy) classic!
Gonzague and Claire Lurton own various properties in Bordeaux, including Durfort Vivens, Ferrière, Haut-Bages Liberal and La Gurgue. In 2012, they acquired a vineyard in Sonoma County, with the aim of producing Bordeaux-inspired white and red wines. In 2014 they built a small winery and got some of the original vines to make it even more authentic. Vigneron Nicolas Vonderheyden, who was born in France, supervises vineyard management and winemaking. These are classically designed, modest wines that represent great value.

A blend of 74% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc and 6% Merlot, the 2015 Trinite Estate Acaibo is medium to deep ruby-purple and opens with a fair bit of Brettanomyces character, with scents of horse sweat, cast-iron pan, beef drippings, cedar and graphite with bitter chocolate, dried herbs and a classy frame of new oak spice. Medium to full-bodied, it's minerally in the mouth with a great fruit core, firm, pleasantly chewy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and layered. So classic! But Brett-a-phobes beware.

In 2012, they acquired a vineyard in Sonoma County, with the aim of producing Bordeaux-inspired white and red blends. In 2014 they built a small winery and ripped out some of the original vines, planted in 1998, to plant more Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. French-born vigneron Nicolas Vonderheyden oversees management of the vineyards and winemaking. These are classically styled, restrained wines that represent great value.
