Description
The 2015 Château Pape Clément Blanc is a white Bordeaux wine from the famous Pessac-Léognan appellation, produced by the historic Château Pape Clément, known for its exceptional red and white wines. This white wine is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc , Sémillon , and sometimes a small addition of Sauvignon Gris or Muscadelle , which gives the wine additional complexity and texture.
The grapes for this wine are carefully selected and harvested by hand to ensure the best quality. The wine undergoes fermentation and maturation in oak barrels , often with a portion of new wood, which provides subtle aromas of toast and vanilla. Maturation on lees adds creaminess and complexity.
Tasting notes
- Aromas : An expressive nose with aromas of tropical fruits (such as pineapple and mango), ripe citrus notes, white flowers, and hints of toasted bread and spices from the wood aging.
- Taste : Full and rich in the mouth, with a creamy texture supported by fresh acidity. The taste has notes of peach, lime, honey and a mineral touch typical of Pessac-Léognan.
- Finish : The finish is long and refined, with lingering fruity and mineral elements and subtle wood influences.
Year 2015
2015 was a warm and relatively dry year in Bordeaux, which resulted in concentrated grapes with an excellent balance between ripeness and acidity. For the white wines this meant ripe fruit aromas with excellent freshness.
Aging potential
The 2015 Château Pape Clément Blanc has good aging potential and can mature for 10 to 15 years, developing tertiary notes of honey, dried fruit and toasted nuts. This wine often becomes more complex and nuanced with age.
Judgement
The 2015 Château Pape Clément Blanc has received very positive reviews from wine critics for its balance, structure, and complexity. It is considered one of the top wines of Pessac-Léognan and is beloved by collectors and lovers of white Bordeaux wines.

The 2015 Pape Clement Blanc is blended of 50% Sauvignon Blanc, 40% Sémillon and 10% Sauvignon Gris, fermented in 55% new and 45% one-year-old oak barrels. It aged for 16 months in barrels, with the entire time spent on the fine lees. It has quite a closed, reticent nose featuring ripe peaches, musk perfume and struck flint notes with a suggestion of lemon curd and honeycomb plus a touch of coriander seed. Medium-bodied with a crisp backbone, the intense citrus and stone fruit flavors trail off beautifully into a lingering honeyed finish.

Very impressive pear and dried-peach fruits with very subtle mealy, savory notes. The palate delivers impressive weight, amazing power and depth here. Richness and great prowess. Tight now. Give it three or four years to open.

From: Finally: Bordeaux 2015 In Bottle (Jul 2019)
The 2015 Pape-Clément Blanc has an attractive bouquet of crisp, well-defined Granny Smith apple, shucked oyster shell, Conference pear and light white peach aromas that gain intensity with aeration. The well-balanced palate possesses good depth and enough acidity to lend real tension and energy. It becomes more malic toward the finish, but there is always an underlying richness that imparts a fine peach skin finish. Excellent. Tasted blind at the Southwold 2015 Bordeaux tasting.
