In the city of Haro lies Bodegas López de Heredia Viña Tondonia, the oldest in the city and one of the first three of La Rioja and the most consistent and classic house that still exists in La Rioja. The family that founded the bodega is still at the helm. The strategic location of the vineyards, the exceptional quality of the plantations and the varieties used, perfectly complemented by a special architecture. The wines are true icons of Spanish viticulture.
The most famous wine comes from the Tondonia vineyard (all wines are named after the vineyard). Both red and white come from here. In addition, there is the Graviona (white) and the Cubillo (red) and the Bosconia vineyard. All wines mature for a very long time on old oak (they employ their own tonneliers) before they are released onto the market after a few years of bottle maturation. These are wines that can mature for a very long time and have nothing to do with the modern wines matured on French oak.
In one of the most prestigious vineyards in La Rioja comes this red Bosconia from Tondonia. It is a very balanced wine with an incredible long aging potential Made from Tempranillo (80%), Grenache (15%) and the rest of Graciano and Mazuelo and aged in oak barrels for five years. This Bosconia is perfectly balanced with a deep ruby red color with shades of orange . The nose is persistent , powerful and with lots of ripe fruit , dominated by the Tempranillo grape. The taste is round , smooth, fresh, full of body and great long lasting aftertaste.

The 2013 Viña Bosconia Reserva even in a cooler and rainier year, like 2013, has a rounder body and still 13.5% alcohol. They also insisted that "remember that we can use 15% of wine from another vintage, and perhaps we topped this one up with wine from 2015. We want consistency year after year." This matured in barrels for five years and was bottled unfiltered but fined with egg whites. It's expressive, elegant and subtle, clean and complex, with polished tannins and very good acidity (pH 3.3 and 6.7 grams of tartaric acid per liter of wine). 70,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2021.

It all started in the 19th century when French negotiators visited the Rioja region to find good grapes that they could use to produce wine and the founder of the winery López de Heredia, Don Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta, took the vineyards of the French. Soon Rafael fell in love with the area and found that the climate and soil was perfect for making quality wine. He started making the López de Heredia winery in Haro in 1877. López de Heredia is a winery where the owners really care about their estate and give a lot of attention to the vineyards and this is also reflected in the wines.
In the town of Haro, the López de Heredia Viña Tondonia is the oldest winery in the city and one of the first four wineries in La Rioja. The strategic location of the vineyards, the exceptional quality of the plantations and the varieties used, which are perfectly complemented by a special architecture, ensure that these wines are of a high level and are among the best wines from the Rioja. Tondonia is about 100 hectares in size and has got its name from the term for the meander (bend) at the river Ebro in which Tondonia is located: Tondon. Besides Tondonia, Lopez de Heredia also has three other vineyards in the Rioja Alta area, namely: The Viña Cubillo, Viña Bosconia and the Viña Gravonia.
