The 2011 Amarone is an Amarone Riserva. The wine comes from the famous year well known to Amarone lovers. In the cellars of Rubinelli they have kept a barrel of this vintage and this was bottled at the beginning of 2024 to show the potential of a well-made Amarone. Freshness and strength go hand in hand and that is rarely the case with the mass of Amarones. This is a meditation wine that should be enjoyed in peace. Unprecedentedly refined and the time in the barrel (9 years) makes this incomparably beautiful.

The Amarone of Rubinello Vajol comes from the typical grape varieties for amarone namely: 40% Corvina, 40% Corvinone, 10% Rondinella, 5% Molinara and 5% Oseleta. The Grand Cru vineyards of Rubinelli are located in the Vajol area and are among the most beautiful parts of the Veneto. In the Vajol the winery has a unique position because all the vineyards are located around the winery (this in contrast to many others (read most) who have plots in the entire area and the commercial amarone wineries often do not have their own vineyards and buy most of them.

All grapes come exclusively from the fields around Corte Sant'Anna, this gives a special uniqueness to the wine and makes it unmistakable: wine born on tuff. Once this area was the sea - imagine a sunny bay. The soil is composed of marl formed between the Mesozoic era (150 million years ago) and the Tertiary era (60 million years ago) followed by the origin of the Alpine mountain range. The soil is very calcareous, ideal for moderating the natural growth force of the vines. Limestone also has spongy properties: the capacity to retain water for long periods only letting it through when the plants need it. This keeps the grapes always well hydrated. The soil is thin but rich in organic matter which allows the vines to live in perfect nutritional balance. This harmony is reflected in the quality of the wines which are always elegant and are a complete expression, both in their aroma and on the palate, of their rich polyphenolic multitude. Rubinelli Vajol wines are born in the soil before they even reach the wine cellar; they are gifts of nature and of the formation of land structures in the Conca del Vajol.

The selected grapes are matured/dried in baskets for four months, after which they are fermented between January and February at a controlled temperature. Then, at Rubinello, the wine is given all the time in large oak barrels for a period of at least 36 months and then the wine is bottle-aged for another 2 years before this top amarone comes onto the market. At Rubinello, they make authentic amarones with a beautiful freshness in which fruit predominates and not the sugars. This riserva has even been allowed to age or mature for a total of 9 years. It is a well-structured wine supported by a good acidity. In the glass in a beautiful sparkling ruby red color. In the nose beautiful tones with candied fruit, dried plum and dried apricot. It also has a hint of spices, leather, black pepper and cedar. The wine is spicy and has beautiful layers. In the mouth, the wine is velvety soft, balanced and elegant. This is incomparable with commercial Amarones, which often have (too) much residual sugar and lack sufficient acidity.

This is a wine to enjoy and almost meditative. Without a doubt an excellent with stews such as an Italian brasato (roasted meat, stewed in red wine) but in general it goes well with dishes with high aromatic value. We advise you to open the bottle some time (2 hours) before serving or to decant.
