Description
The 2011 Palmer is a blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon. Half a century after the legendary 1961 vintage, this year’s wine stood out for its extremely low yields, the result of hail and, in June, extreme heat. The concentrated result was both beautiful and unexpected, which should herald excellent ageing potential. Half a century after the legendary 1961 vintage, this year’s wine stood out for its extremely low yields, the result of hail and, in June, extreme heat. The concentrated result was both beautiful and unexpected, which should herald excellent ageing potential. Opaque garnet-purple in colour, it glides slowly from the glass with convincing notes of blueberry compote, warm cherries and hints of violets, cigar box, black tea, sandalwood and pepper. Full-bodied, deliciously rich, concentrated and bursting with energy. On the palate this top Palmer is full bodied with layer upon layer of black, blue and red fruit and framed by super ripe, incredibly fine grained tannins with an unparalleled finish.

"The opaque blue/purple-colored 2011 Palmer reveals a stunning bouquet of licorice, truffles, camphor, spring flowers, black raspberries and black currants. One of the superstars of the vintage, this brilliant 2011 possesses superb concentration and purity, medium to full body, and remarkable length of close to a minute. A tour de force in winemaking, the Palmer team merits accolades for achieving this level of quality in a more challenging vintage than either 2009 or 2010. The "wine of the vintage" in Margaux, tiny yields of 20 hectoliters per hectare, a final blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, and a severe selection (only 55% of the production made it into Palmer) are the reasons for this success."

A wine with currants and mineral character on the nose and palate. It’s full-bodied, with silky, polished tannins and a long finish. Very tight and refined now. Tannic. Palmer only made 20 hectoliters of wine a hectare. Like a tightly wound ball of cashmere thread. Try in 2020.

Château Palmer is located in the heart of the Margaux appellation in the Bordeaux wine region. The 66 hectares of vineyards have a gravel soil and the vines overlook the Gironde River. The area with its rich ancient history and nourishing microclimate is a fantastic environment for the vines. Here they can flourish and grow under the passionate care of the people of Château Palmer. Behind every great wine is a great terroir. This is also the case at Château Palmer, which is located on a long strip of land between the Atlantic Ocean and the Gironde. The land is well drained, rich in the deposits of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers. It is difficult soil for agriculture, but exceptional for grapes. Of course, the vines also need good care in order to perform optimally. And that is certainly entrusted to the employees of Château Palmer! Full of passion and love for the vines, they cultivate the demanding terroir. The people of this winery are more than just colleagues. Together they embrace the common core values of Château Palmer and are therefore extremely dynamic, curious, passionate, open-minded and determined. In short, they live for and with the vineyards.
