Omschrijving

April 2019 Week 4 - Bordeaux 2018, The Wine Advocate
This wine is a blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc to be aged for approximately 18 months in oak barriques, 60% new. Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2018 Pape Clement is a little closed, slowly unfurling to reveal fragrant earth, crushed rocks, iron ore and tobacco notions over a core of crushed red and black currants plus kirsch, red roses and Ceylon tea. Full-bodied and wonderfully vivacious, it offers a solid line of firm and fine-grained tannins and amazing freshness, finishing very long and mineral laced.

Tasting Note
This is really well put together, with waves of steeped plum, currant and raspberry fruit, bolts of licorice and tar and a long apple wood accent on the sappy finish. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Score range: 95 - 98 — JM

From: The Future’s Definitely Not What It Was: Bordeaux 2018 (Mar 2021)
The 2018 Pape-Clément Blanc offers attractive scents of white flower, honeysuckle, tangerine and yellow plum that gently gains intensity with aeration. The palate is well balanced on the entry, displaying a waxy texture, but then it loses a little tension toward the finish. Nutty and smoky, quite forward and just missing the energy conveyed by the aromatics.

From: Bordeaux 2018: Not Back in Black (Mar 2021)
The 2018 Pape Clément Blanc is quite pretty and understated. Lemon confit, marzipan, white flowers, mint and chamomile all grace this wonderfully expressive dry white from proprietor Bernard Magrez. As with all of these wines, the Blanc is done in a less opulent style than in the past, an approach that works beautifully here.

From: The Future’s Not What It Was: Bordeaux 2018 (Nov 2019)
Due to be bottled December 2019, the 2018 Pape Clément Blanc has a fresh bouquet with nectarine, frangipane, crushed stone and pressed white flower scents, just a touch of gravel in the background. The palate is very well balanced with a fine line of acidity, more saline than previous vintages with touches of walnut and smoke towards the precise finish. Excellent.

From: Bordeaux 2018: Back in Black (Apr 2019)
The 2018 Pape Clément Blanc is laced with white flowers, mint, passion fruit, apricot and chamomile. Here, too, the more restrained style that is typical at the estate these days is very much in evidence. The blend is 57% Sauvignon Blanc, 39% Sémillon and 4% Muscadelle, all fermented in oak, including larger 500-liter and 10HL foudres. Larger format oak adds an element of tension and brightness that is super intriguing.
