The D.O. Located in the extreme east of La Mancha, Almansa is located in a transition area between Meseta and the Mediterranean Sea and borders the D.O. Alicante (Valencia) and the D.O.s Jumilla and Yecla (Murcia). The Monastrell grape shows its enormous potential in Almansa wine. New red wines from groundbreaking bodegas, consisting of a blend of Monastrell and Tempranillo, are finding their way to the export market.

The vineyards of the Almansa wine region cover 7,600 hectares in an area shaped like a peanut, located around Almansa to the east and Bonete to the west. The vineyards in the Almansa wine region are mainly located on the flat areas of land with carbon-rich soil in the fertile top layer, which provides ideal conditions for making quality wines from the Almansa wine region. It is an extreme area in terms of temperature. The winegrowing area of Almansa is 100 kilometers from Benidorm as the crow flies, but the Mediterranean climate on the Costa Blanca is hardly noticeable. In the summer the mercury rises above 40 degrees and in the winter it is stone cold for months. Little precipitation and the grapes have to work hard and root very deeply, which gives the unique character to the wines from this area.
