The grapes for the POPs grow according to the old Alberello method with a very low yield. With the albarello method, the vines are not supported by poles or iron wire, so the vines form a low shrub that resembles a small tree (Alberello means 'young tree' in Italian). It is very expensive to grow grapes this way because far fewer vines can be planted per hectare, the amount of manual work in the vineyard because there is no machine involved, and the low yields. The advantage, however, is that the grapes are of very high quality. The harvest for all 4 Puglia POP wines takes place in early September and is carried out completely manually. At Puglia POP everything takes a very long time and this ensures, among other things, the high quality. After manual picking, the grapes are immediately pressed, after which the must remains on its lees and with natural yeasts for more than a month in stainless steel tanks. After this, the wine is transferred to amphorae made of clay where it is allowed to mature for 6 months followed by another 6 months in French and American oak barriques. The Puglia POP wines are unique in their kind. Extremely high quality and that together with a great, very exclusive design. Very high Vivino rating by consumers and despite a very short existence (these wines only came onto the market at the end of 2020), they have now also received beautiful awards from the wine press. Ultimately, the wine is bottled in its very innovative bottle, which insulates the wine 45% better against temperature changes and 100% protects it from light than a normal wine bottle. This keeps the wine fresh for longer and allows you to drink the wine as the winemaker intended, without unpleasant external influences. The bottle is also 100% recyclable and contributes to social projects in Puglia.
FACT: The Puglia POP Luminaria Primitivo di Manduria and Fico received 4.5* stars in the Press Wine special of October 2022 and had the highest ratings of all Primitivio Manduria and Susumaniello wines from the blind tasting.

Puglia POP-wijnen
Puglia POP is een begrip in Puglia en in de wijnwereld en schudt de boel aardig op in een regio waar vooral zeer veel volume wordt geproduceerd en nog (te) vaak tegen zeer twijfelachtige kwaliteit.
Bedrijven zoals Rivera en Gianfranco Fino zijn degene die een startschot hebben gegeven om de focus vooral te verplaatsen naar kwaliteit en Bij Puglia POP gaan ze nog een stap verder en heeft men niet alleen de wijn productie, maar ook de fles volledig onderhanden genomen.
Het Salento DOC-gebied (Primitivo di Manduria en Susumaniello) is het meest geschikte gebied voor de rode Puglia POP-variëteiten dankzij de hete temperaturen die we in de zomer hebben (tot 45 °C) en de nabijheid van de zee wat zorgt dat der in de avond een serieuze afkoeling is. De Verdeca en Negroamaro wijngaarden zijn gelegen in het Valle d'Itria-gebied, een van de weinige heuvelachtige gebieden in heel Puglia, met mooie temperatuurschommelingen gedurende dag en nacht en dat geeft een mooie zuurgraad en geweldige aroma's aan de wijnen.
Over het Puglia POP-wijnhuis en de wijnen

PUGLIA POP is een volledig nieuw project waarbij er wijnen worden gemaakt van slechts alleen de allerhoogste kwaliteit en zijn de flessen zeer innovatief en prachtig om te zien.

De wijn komt van oude wijnstokken met zeer lage opbrengsten van slechts 1 tot 1.5 kg per stok. Er komt dus maximaal, maar 1 fles wijn van een struik!

De wijnstokken worden geteeld via de Albarello methode. Hierbij worden de wijnstokken niet ondersteund door palen of ijzerdraad waardoor de wijnstokken een lage struik vormen wat lijkt op een kleine boom (Alberello betekent in het Italiaans dan ook 'jonge boom'). Het is erg kostbaar om op deze manier druiven te verbouwen, omdat er veel minder wijnstokken geplant kunnen worden per hectare en kan er niet met machines gewerkt. Dit geeft uiteindelijk zeer lage opbrengsten, maar het voordeel is echter dat de druiven van zeer hoge kwaliteit zijn

De oogst worden alle 4 de Puglia POP-wijnen vindt begin september plaats en wordt volledig handmatig uitgevoerd. Bij Puglia POP krijgt alles zeer lang de tijd en dit zorgt onder meer voor de hoge kwaliteit. De fermentatie is altijd zeer lang en in alle gevallen blijft droesem met de natuurlijk gisten aanwezig. Hierna wordt de wijn overgebracht naar amforen gemaakt van klei waar deze voor vele maanden mag rijpen en de rode wijnen krijgen dan nog eens 6 maanden veroudering in Frans en Amerikaans eikenhouten barriques. Alle wijnen krijgen ook altijd nog een aantal maanden tot een half jaar flesrijping voordat de wijn beschikbaar komt.

Uiteindelijk wordt de wijn gebotteld in haar zeer innovatieve fles welke de wijn 45% beter isoleert tegen temperatuur wisselingen en 100% beter beschermd tegen licht dan een normale wijnfles. Hierdoor blijft de wijn langer goed en drinkt u de wijn zoals de wijnmaker heeft bedoeld zonder nare invloeden van buitenaf. De fles is ook nog eens 100% recyclebaar en draagt bij aan Sustainable projecten in Puglia
