Description
Bodegas Juan Piñero is located in Sanlúcar de Barrameda, a town in the Jerez region of Andalusia, Spain. The bodega was founded in 1992 when Juan Piñero purchased and renovated a century-old wine cellar. In 2007, the company expanded with a second bodega in Jerez de la Frontera. The Jerez region is known for its unique climate and Albariza soil, which are ideal for the production of sherry wines.
This Cream Sherry is a blend of Oloroso and approximately 25% Pedro Ximénez, resulting in a sweet but balanced wine. The wine has an average age of 12 years and is matured in a solera system. The alcohol content is 17%. The grapes used are Palomino and Pedro Ximénez. After harvesting, the grapes are pressed and fermented. The wine is then fortified and matured in oak barrels according to the traditional solera system.
The wine has a mahogany brown colour. In the nose aromas of dried fruit, raisins and a hint of caramel are noticeable. The taste is sweet and refreshing, with notes of dried fruit and a soft, balanced finish. The Juan Piñero Cream Sherry Great Duke 12 Years is a rich, sweet sherry with a refined balance between sweetness and freshness.

Special Interim Issue Report, The Wine Advocate
This non-vintage Juan Piñero Cream Sherry was aged 15-20 years in 600-liter American oak barrels. Fashioned from 75% Palomino Fino and 25% Pedro Ximenez, it exhibits an amber color as well as considerable residual sugar, but it is by no means cloying or overly sweet. It exhibits complex notes of toffee, maple syrup and honeyed caramels, a full-bodied thickness and unctuose texture, and tremendous freshness that can only be achieved with extremely long aging. It is not meant to improve after bottling, so drink it now. If you are looking for something decadent at the end of a meal, this is a bargain-priced choice.

Bodegas Juan Piñero was an Almacenista who sold his wines to bodegas Argüeso and La Gitana. From 2013 they started bottling themselves. They also took over the stocks and old brand Maruja Manzanilla from Bodegas Terry. The bodega is located in the middle of the town of Sanlucar on Calle Trasbolsa near the river Guadalquivir. In order to retain as much taste as possible, the wines are only very visible filtered.
