Cluver & Jack Craft Cider is a unique product from Elgin, South Africa. Owners of this company are Paul Cluver - one of South Africa's top winemakers - and his good friend Bruce Jack, whose great-grandfather was one of the first to plant apple trees in South Africa's Western Cape. In addition to making wine, Paul Cluver also really wanted to make a real craft cider on his own Cluver Estate in Elgin, Western Cape. Together with Bruce Jack he went in search of the best fruit. The apples for this cider are carefully selected and picked by hand. Unlike many ciders, no fruit concentrate is used for Cluver & Jack. Smaller Granny Smith, Pink Lady, Sundowner and Royal Gala apples are used for this cider, because it is precisely these apples that provide a lot of flavour. The fresh apples are cut into pieces and pressed. The juice is then fermented at a low temperature to obtain as much flavor as possible. Afterwards, the cider is filtered and a small amount of CO2 is added. All in all, a pure and authentic cider!

This cider is made from freshly picked fruit (as opposed to turnip fruit) and therefore has a fresh taste. The cider smells of fresh green apples, citrus and peach. The mouthfeel is refreshing due to the light mousse, the taste is not too sweet and comes across very natural. The drink is made without the addition of preservatives and/or flavourings.

Serve the cider "on the rocks" in a highball glass. Learn more at www.cluverjack.com

Vineyard for Cluver & Jack Apple Cider

Paul Cluver is located in Elgin, one of the coolest regions of South Africa. Paul Clüver is originally an apple company, but since 1986, on the initiative of owner Paul Clüver, also a wine company. Due to its location in a very cool area, directly by the sea, wines are made here with a remarkable finesse and freshness. Third generation starts with wine. The estate of the Clüver family, De Rust, was acquired in 1896 by the grandfather of the current owner, Paul Clüver.

Soil samples were taken during the 1980s, which showed that viticulture was perfectly possible here. It was then decided to replace part of the apple orchards with vineyards. It was initially agreed to process the grapes into wine on the Nederburg Estate, one of the
most famous houses of the Cape. The first grapes were planted in 1986: Sauvigon Blanc, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer and Weisser Riesling. The latter grape has been planted to make sweet wines with the help of noble rot. The estate's wines are now entirely made in-house to give them their own character. Andries Burger, the winemaker of Paul Clüver, is responsible. Dr. Paul Clüver himself is still involved in his own profession: neurosurgery.
