Persoonlijke gegevens
The 2025 Caillou Blanc de Talbot is the white wine of Château Talbot from Saint-Julien. This wine is made primarily from Sauvignon Blanc and demonstrates that Bordeaux also produces excellent dry white wines. The 2025 vintage combines freshness, tension, and a strikingly refined aromatic expression. An elegant white Bordeaux that is attractive both when young and possesses sufficient structure for further development in the bottle.
Caillou Blanc de Talbot: the white wine from Château Talbot
Château Talbot is one of the most famous estates in Saint-Julien and has enjoyed an excellent reputation for generations. In addition to the famous red Grand Cru Classé, the estate also produces Caillou Blanc de Talbot, a wine that has now secured a firm place among the top white Bordeaux wines.
Moreover, the 2025 is a special vintage. Due to changes within the appellation rules, this wine is henceforth classified as Médoc Blanc. The blend consists of 88% Sauvignon Blanc, supplemented by a smaller proportion of Sémillon. This composition results in a style centered on freshness, precision, and tension.
Vineyards and vinification
The grapes come from carefully selected plots around the estate. The high proportion of Sauvignon Blanc gives the wine its lively character, fresh acidity, and pronounced aromatic profile. During vinification, great care is taken to preserve the fruit, freshness, and texture.
The result is a white Bordeaux that does not rely on excessive ripeness, but rather excels in balance and refinement. The wine possesses sufficient concentration and volume without losing its elegance.
Scent, taste and style
On the nose, the 2025 Caillou Blanc de Talbot opens with aromas of white flowers, citrus blossom, and ripe apricot. Additionally, notes of fresh herbs, lemon, and a subtle creaminess are present, adding extra complexity.
On the palate, the wine immediately reveals its refined structure. Ripe citrus notes, juicy white fruit, and fresh herbs are supported by lively acidity. The Sauvignon Blanc provides tension and energy, while the wine simultaneously possesses sufficient volume and roundness. The finish is fresh, long, and clean, with a pleasant mineral touch that invites another sip.
This vintage displays a slightly tighter and more refined style than some earlier editions, with less emphasis on exotic fruit and more focus on precision and elegance.
The 2025 Caillou Blanc de Talbot is particularly attractive even when young thanks to its fresh fruit expression, but possesses sufficient concentration to develop further.
Preferably serve this wine at 10 to 12°C. The wine pairs excellently with shellfish, grilled fish, oysters, lobster, ceviche, and refined dishes with citrus accents. Its lively character also comes beautifully to the fore with goat cheese or dishes with fresh herbs.

James Suckling
(92-93) Plenty of substance and volume, with delicious sweet lemons and herbs. Medium-bodied with fresh acidity. Round and mellow finish.

Vinous
The 2025 Caillou Blanc Talbot is the first vintage that will be classed as a Médoc Blanc after the change in rules. It has an attractive, quite floral bouquet, white flowers, hints of apricot and custard creams. The palate is well balanced, with a fine bead of acidity, bright and lively, a little tang on the finish, but I like how the 88% Sauvignon imparts tension, and so this is a Caillou with less exoticism. Very fine. Drinking Window: 2026 - 2035.

Château Talbot winery takes its name from the heroic English commander Connetable Talbot, who died in 1453 at the Battle of Castillon. The largest and one of the oldest Château of Saint Julien, is ideally located a short distance from the Gironde, where the vineyards are on a fine pebble ground and produce one of the finest red wines of Saint Julien. The Château has belonged to the Cordier family since 1917. Several generations of this family show that they realize the importance of quality. Traditional and modern methods are used side by side. The interaction between man and nature and an age-old knowledge of this excellent terroir, produce a different wine every year, but a wine that is certainly complex and beautifully balanced.
