Blanc de Lynch-Bages 2025 demonstrates how seriously Château Lynch-Bages approaches its white wine. This Bordeaux Blanc combines aromatic intensity with refined texture and striking freshness. The 2025 displays citrus, ripe white fruit, and floral finesse in a style that offers immediate charm but also ages beautifully.

Blanc de Lynch-Bages

Although Château Lynch-Bages is primarily known worldwide for its iconic Pauillac, the château has also been producing a small quantity of remarkably high-quality white Bordeaux since 1978. Remarkably, Blanc de Lynch-Bages originated more or less by accident, after nurseries inadvertently mixed a few white vines with deliveries of red varieties. What began as a minor mistake grew into a staple within the Lynch-Bages range.

Blanc de Lynch-Bages has been commercially released since 1990 and is today one of the most interesting dry white Bordeaux wines from the Médoc. The wine combines tension, aromatic expression, and texture in a style that is both refined and gastronomically versatile. You can find more information about the château under the Winery tab.

Origin and growing season

The Blanc de Lynch-Bages vineyards cover approximately 11 hectares and are situated on the famous Garonne gravel soils of Pauillac. These poor, well-draining soils lend the wine tension and precision, while the proximity of the Gironde ensures a moderate microclimate.

The 2025 growing season ranks among the earliest since 1989. A mild winter without frost or hail was followed by a warm, dry spring that ensured a homogeneous growing season and healthy grapes. Two summer heatwaves were followed by rain falling at the end of August, which helped maintain freshness and balance. The harvest took place early, between August 26 and September 4.

Grapes and vinification

The blend of Blanc de Lynch-Bages 2025 consists of 60% Sauvignon Blanc, 24% Sémillon, 11% Muscadelle, and, for the first time, 5% Sauvignon Gris. It is precisely the addition of Sauvignon Gris that gives this vintage extra aromatic depth and texture.

After manual harvesting and rigorous selection, the grapes were transported to the cellar under inert gas to preserve maximum freshness. Depending on the grape variety and quality, direct pressing, destemmed pressing, or a short cold maceration of approximately twelve hours was used. Two-thirds of the fermentation took place in barrels, the remainder in tanks. Subsequently, the wine matured for six months sur lie in oak barrels, 50% of which were new wood.

Style and taste profile

Blanc de Lynch-Bages 2025 opens with expressive aromas of citrus, pear, green apple, and stone fruit, complemented by notes of exotic fruit and refined floral nuances such as jasmine and acacia blossom. The wine displays great aromatic precision without becoming excessive.

On the palate, the wine combines a rich, soft texture with lively freshness. Ripe white fruit and floral notes are supported by subtle oak influences that provide roundness without being dominant. According to Antonio Galloni, the combination of aromatic intensity and textural elegance is particularly successful. The wine feels simultaneously refined, energetic, and gastronomic, with a long, harmonious finish.

Reviews and scores

Blanc de Lynch-Bages 2025 receives 94 points from Antonio Galloni (Vinous), who describes the wine as particularly successful. He especially praises the combination of texture and aromatic intensity, with notes of pear, green apple, jasmine, and subtle tropical nuances. The expected drinking window runs from 2027 to 2035.

The founder of Lynch-Bages is the Irish John Lynch who settled in Bordeaux in the 17th century. The village of Bages is home to the château. Since 1933, Lynch-Bages has been run by the Cazes family, an institution in the Médoc and a famous name in the world of wine. Third generation André Cazes was mayor of the municipality of Pauillac from 1947 to 1991. His son Jean-Michel has been running the family domain for several decades. His motto is; "great wine in search of the absolute". Given the appreciation for and status of Lynch-Bages, this 'absolute' has been reasonably achieved. Officially the château has the status of 5th Grand Cru Classé, but unofficially it is counted among the greatest of the Médoc. The other parts of the family business can also be described as very successful. Cordeillan-Bages, winery, hotel and best dining in the surrounding area and restaurant / caterer Le Chapon Fin in Bordeaux are good examples of this. Father André founded the Commanderie du Bontemps de Médoc in the late 1940s and Jean-Michel can call himself the founder of the École du Bordeaux. In short, an eventful family in the world of wine.
