Persoonlijke gegevens
The Château Kirwan Margaux has a fresh ruby red color with a few nuances. Enchanting aromas of red and black currant emerge on the nose, enhanced by spicy undertones. The bouquet is striking for its freshness and purity. On the palate, the attack is fresh, with a pleasant acidity that releases a hint of menthol. The wine gradually intensifies as the palate reveals fruity aromas, tannins, and the distinctive personality formed by aging. The palate is equally dynamic and soft, supported by beautiful, well-ripened tannins.
About Château Kirwan
The name Kirwan is Irish and comes from Mark Kirwan, who lived in Bordeaux at the time. He became the owner of the Château in 1760. Château Kirwan has belonged to the Schÿler family, who were also négociants in Bordeaux, since 1925. The 37-hectare vineyard is divided into two parts: two-thirds is a ridge of pebbles surrounding the château in Cantenac, where the Cabernet Sauvignon is planted. One-third contains more clay to the west of the appellation, where the Merlot is planted. Two wines are made at the Château: Château Kirwan and Les Charmes de Kirwan, from younger vines. The vines average 27 years of age. Kirwan describes his wines as "feminine" and complex.

The purity of fruit is very attractive, with blackberries, black cherries and dark chocolate. Medium- to full-bodied with a juicy finish. A solid Kirwan.

From: Hot Body, Cold Blood: 2025 Bordeaux En Primeur (May 2026)
The 2025 Kirwan takes a little time to settle in the glass, but it is worth the wait as it coalesces and reveals very seductive blackberry and blueberry fruit, pressed violet and light undergrowth scents. Fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with silky, smooth tannins, a keen line of acidity, velvety and caressing, with ample weight on the quintessentially Margaux finish. What a beautiful wine in the making.

Chateau Kirwan has belonged since 1925 to the Schÿler family, a négociants family from Bordeaux. The vineyard of 37 hectares is divided into two parts, 2/3 is a ridge of stones around the castle in Cantenac, where the Cabernet is planted. 1/3 contains more clay west of the appellation, where the Merlot is planted. The family has made huge investments to bring the cru to a very high level in terms of quality. Today it is Philippe Delfaut who vinifies and gives more and more refinement and elegance.
