PREMIERE | AVAILABLE SPRING 2028
Château Brane-Cantenac has been one of the absolute benchmarks of Margaux for years. The 2025 is a wine that perfectly aligns with the style for which the château is known: refined, aromatic, and impressively precise. In the year in which the Lurton family celebrates its centenary at the estate, Brane-Cantenac presents a wine that brings together elegance, freshness, and terroir expression at a high level.
A special anniversary year
2025 marks one hundred years of family history at Château Brane-Cantenac. Since its purchase by Léonce Récapet in 1925, the Lurton family has continued to develop the estate generation after generation. Under the leadership of Henri Lurton, Brane-Cantenac grew into one of the most consistent top producers on the Left Bank, with a recognizable style in which finesse is always more important than pure power.
The growing season was warm and dry, with early flowering and low disease pressure. The summer resulted in small, concentrated grapes and low yields. Rain at the end of August helped complete ripening without thinning the grapes. Thanks to cool nights, the natural freshness was excellently preserved. Henri Lurton describes 2025 as a vintage with a strong identity of its own, in which nothing was forced, neither in the vineyard nor in the cellar.
Composition and vinification
The blend consists of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Carménère. That small amount of Carménère is only harvested at the very end of the crop and contributes to the complexity of the final blend.
The harvest took place between September 2 and 29. Due to the small berries, the yield was only 32.2 hectoliters per hectare. The grapes reached excellent phenolic ripeness, while the alcohol percentages remained remarkably moderate. This contributes to the balance and classic character of the wine.
Scent and taste
The nose is exceptionally pure and refined. Aromas of black cherries, blueberries, and violets are complemented by notes of lavender, graphite, tobacco, spices, and fine cedarwood. As the wine opens up, more and more nuances emerge, without the aromatic profile losing its precision.
On the palate, the 2025 reveals itself to be silky and harmonious. The tannins are finely sculpted and provide structure without any harshness. The fruit is bright and energetic, supported by a striking minerality characteristic of Brane-Cantenac. Despite the concentration, the wine remains light-footed and elegant. The long finish combines freshness, tension, and complexity in a way that will immediately remind many enthusiasts of the great classic vintages of Margaux.
Château Brane-Cantenac
Château Brane-Cantenac is a Deuxième Grand Cru Classé from Margaux and is widely regarded as one of the best-performing Classés in Bordeaux. The estate features exceptionally situated gravel terraces that are particularly well-suited for Cabernet Sauvignon. The focus on terroir expression, precision in the vineyard, and careful vinification has ensured that Brane-Cantenac has achieved an impressive level of quality in recent years. You can find more information about the winery under the Winery tab.
One of the highlights of the year
The 2025 Château Brane-Cantenac combines everything that great Margaux is known for: floral aromas, refined tannins, pure fruit expression, and an impressive balance. The wine does not possess excessive power, but convinces precisely through precision, elegance, and depth. It is a classic Brane-Cantenac that demonstrates why this château belongs to the absolute top of the appellation year after year.

Parker
(93-96) A blend of 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 18% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc and 1% Carmenère (the latter harvested by the winery team after everything else has been picked), the 2025 Brane-Cantenac offers up a rich bouquet of crème de cassis, plums and spices, framed by a deft touch of new oak. Medium- to full-bodied, layered and lively, with powdery tannins that contribute youthful grip on the finish, it checks in at a very classical 13.3% alcohol and pH of 3.62.

(96-97) A medium-bodied and solid red with blackberry, chocolate, meat and walnut character. It shows juicy tannins and a long finish. Persistent and classy. Such length and balance.

Vinous
(95-97) The 2025 Brane-Cantenac was picked from September 2 to 29, finishing with that 1% of late-ripening Carménère, cropped at 32.2 hl/ha. It has impressive purity on the nose, an aspect of the Grand Vin that Henri Lurton and his team have improved immensely over the last decade. Black cherries, bilberry, violet and crushed stone unfold in the glass, classical in style, which is Brane-Cantenac's signature. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, finely sculpted tannins allied with disarming sapidity and brightness. Not powerful like the 2022, yet pixelated with a mineral, tensile, complex finish. Another feather in the cap for Lurton and, moreover, this is often one of the best values on release. Drinking Window: 2032 - 2060.
- By Neal Martin on May 2026
(95-97) The 2025 Brane-Cantenac is incredibly polished right out of the gate. Floral overtones lead into a core of blue/purplish fruit, spice, new leather, tobacco, lavender and a kiss of French oak. Silky tannins lend shape and finesse. The aromatics alone are so compelling, but everything about the 2025 speaks to balance. It’s a magnificent effort from proprietor Henri Lurton and his team. One of the highlights of the vintage. Drinking Window: 2035 - 2065.
- By Antonio Galloni on April 2026
There seems to be no stopping Henri Lurton and his team at Brane-Cantenac. Like a musician who has found that perfect groove, the wines have reached a higher level of quality. “The vines did not suffer too much in 2025,” Lurton told me. “We had small grapes, like everywhere. Rain in August helped with maturation, though the berries remained small. Cold nights helped retain acidity. It was a relatively easy vintage with no disease pressure.”

Château Brane-Cantenac - elegant wines from the Bordeaux
Château Brane-Cantenac is located in the world-famous Bordeaux wine region, in the heart of the famous Margaux appellation. The Château exudes pride and allure, and the winery is known for producing wines with remarkable elegance and finesse. In the world of fine wine, this beautiful estate is a true emblem of quality and excellence.
History
The history of this winery dates back to about 250 years ago where the legend of Brane-Cantenac is the story of a flourishing relationship between man and earth, which has grown stronger over the centuries. This great wine estate, called 'Hostein' in the 18th century, was bought by the Gorce family and produced one of the most famous wines of the Medoc long before the 1855 classification. The 2nd wine of this winery, the Baron de Brane, got its name as a tribute to the famous Baron Jacques-Maxime de Brane, the 'Napoléon des Vignes', who owned the estate in the 19th century. The Lurton family has been at the helm for the past 4 generations. All very dedicated owners who ensured that the vineyard continued to flourish, and still produce the highest quality wines. Since 1992, Henri Lurton has continued the journey started by his father and his ancestors. Although he favors innovation and new technology, Henri will never lose sight of the traditional values that are and remain inherent in Brane's identity. He is particularly proud of the unique terroir and recognizes the need to treat the soil, vines and grapes with immense respect while carefully controlling Brane's future course.
Terroir
Obtaining the best possible fruit requires a unique exchange between man and nature, based on a deep understanding of the land itself, and further developed through centuries of experience. Famous for its deep, gravel and mineral-rich soils, Brane-Cantenac has some of the most beautiful parts of Margaux. Set on an illustrious high plateau, the castle has stony bottoms that force the roots of the vines to dig deep into the earth for sustenance. All areas of the vineyards have different characteristics, making them best suited to certain grape varieties. Cabernet Sauvignon (55%), Merlot (40%), Cabernet Franc (4.5%) and Carmenère (0.5%) grapes are grown at Brane-Cantenac. The vineyards are continuously micro-managed with one goal in mind: obtaining grapes of the highest quality and maintaining low yields. Replanting efforts in recent years, and a move towards organic cultivation, demonstrate the strong commitment to sustainable viticulture by Château Brane-Cantenac.
Harvest
One of the most exciting and labor-intensive periods begins in mid-September. Where it is normally quiet and peaceful, a wave of activity ensues in September where everyone prepares to gather the fruits that have been carefully cherished all year round. Thorough scientific analysis and tasting of the grapes must take place before the decision to harvest is made. Picking can only take place when every grape has reached the perfect condition.
