EXCLUSIVE - EXPECTED SPRING 2028
2025 Château Bélair-Monange shows why this iconic estate belongs to the absolute elite of Saint-Émilion.
Historic terroir on the limestone heights of Saint-Émilion
Château Bélair-Monange is situated on the highest part of the limestone plateau of Saint-Émilion and ranks among the top of the appellation as a Premier Grand Cru Classé. The estate has a history dating back to Roman times and is currently managed by the Moueix family, who have invested heavily in both the vineyard and the cellar since taking over in 2008. The name Monange is a tribute to Christian Moueix's mother. Its location on pure limestone creates a unique combination of power, tension, and refinement.
Precision in the vineyard and state-of-the-art wine cellar
The vineyards are situated on an exceptional mix of limestone and clay, with old vines rooting deep in the rock. This results in low yields and grapes with high concentration and natural freshness. Merlot traditionally forms the basis of the blend, complemented by Cabernet Franc for added tension and aromatic finesse.
In June 2023, the completely new wine cellars of Château Bélair-Monange were officially put into operation. Designed by the renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron, the cellars were built with a full focus on terroir expression and precision. The modern infrastructure enables extremely precise vinification, without losing sight of the character of this historic terroir.
Style and taste profile of Château Bélair-Monange 2025
Bélair-Monange is known for its combination of depth, tension, and refinement. Expect aromas of black cherries, plums, violets, graphite, and subtle spices, supported by the characteristic freshness of limestone. The texture is layered and precise, with refined tannins and a long, mineral finish. The 2025 promises to be a wine that beautifully combines power and elegance and will develop excellently in the cellar.

Parker
RP (93-95) The 2025 Château Belair-Monange opens in the glass with rich aromas of sweet cherries, berry preserve and fruit compote mingled with hints of licorice and spices. Medium- to full-bodied, satiny and suave, it's lively and polished, with a rich core of sun-kissed fruit and a youthfully structured finish.

James Suckling
(Score: 97-98) Tight and firm, with toned tannins that run the length of the wine and create energy in the finish of crushed stones and chalk. Medium- to full-bodied. Its power spreads nicely across the palate. 98% merlot and 2% cabernet franc.

Vinous
(95-97) The 2025 Bélair-Monange was picked between September 4 and 19 and matured in 50% new oak. This has a classy nose, understated at first, exquisite delineation, nuanced with its mixture of red and black fruit, sage, undergrowth and light rose petal scents, real purity. The palate is armed with a satin-like texture, real depth and gentle grip, yet discreet and poised with disarming pliancy and fluidity on the almost viscous finish. Real umami sensation with this wine. This is a sophisticated Bélair-Monange that will give decades of drinking pleasure. Drinking Window: 2032 - 2058 - By Neal Martin on May 2026
Edouard Moueix explained the conditions and factors that shaped the 2025 growing season: “Access to water made all the difference. We had the same weather in Saint-Émilion and Pomerol, and at the end of July/early August, the clay in Pomerol was really important. Young vines on gravel suffered, which is why there is no La Grave this year. Limestone made a huge difference—you could see the difference in the leaves’ colour. The sandy soils in Pomerol suffered more, so essentially, the less clay, the more difficulty you had. It was a vintage of storms. In August, there was a huge storm in the northern Médoc, but there was nothing here. In Pomerol, we were saved by 27 mm of rain one late morning at the end of August. This visibly changed the vineyard, accelerating ripeness. It was an easy picking.”
(95-97) The 2025 Bélair-Monange is another outstanding wine from Saint-Émilion's plateau in this very challenging vintage. Aromatic, sculpted and wonderfully precise, Bélair-Monange marries power with finesse. Floral overtones, blood orange and a kick of exotic spice meld into red-toned fruit as the 2025 shows off its considerable allure. Clean saline notes appear on the mid-palate, adding tension and energy through to the reverberating finish. Drinking Window: 2033 - 2065
