At Compañía Bodeguera de Valenciso. For the barrel-fermented Valenciso Blanco, they use exclusively oak from the Caucasus, as they believe the fine-grained wood ensures a better balance between fruit and oak. This beautiful white Rioja is a blend of 70% Viura and 30% Grenache Blanc from old vines in the villages of Villalba, Haro, and Ollauri. Fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged for six months in 20% new barrels and 80% second-year barrels. This Valenciso is very elegant and balanced, true to the house style, clean, classic, and very well balanced. Beautiful notes of citrus and a hint of fresh bread on the nose. On the nose, the wine is fresh and lively with fine oak that combines very well with the fruity notes.
The wine is a good accompaniment to white meat, vegetables, cod, and Asian cuisine.

The white 2024 Fermentado en Barrica, a wine of great regularity, shows, serious, clean and harmonious. It was produced with a blend of 70% Viura and 30% Garnacha Blanca from a year of low yields and a quick harvest of the white grapes at the end of September. They fermented it with selected yeasts and matured it in Caucasian oak barrels, for which they had the initial help from Denis Dubourdieu, to avoid creaminess and maderization in the wine, which keeps a young and fresh profile, with aromas of white flowers, white fruit, pollen and just a smoky and spicy twist. It has a medium-bodied palate with very good balance, 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3.46 and 5.3 grams of acidity. 11,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2025.
Valenciso was sold in December 2024 to the Iberian group who also has wineries in Ribera del Duero and Priorat, but Luis Valentín and Carmen Enciso, who created the company back in 1998, continue providing their know-how. They have 31 hectares of organically farmed but not certified vineyards (since 2017) with the guidance of vineyard expert Julián Palacios. They produce 150,000 bottles. I tasted wines from different vintages, as they sell a range of wines with different ages. The wines are harmonious and, in general, show very good regularity.

Winemakers with over 25 years of experience in La Rioja. In 1998 they revived an old winery and gave it the name Valenciso which is a combination of the two surnames (Valentin and Enciso). The vineyards and bodega are located in Ollauri, 4 km from Haro in the north of La Rioja Alta. An area that differs from the rest of the Rioja by a climate with Atlantic influences and Mediterranean heat. The vineyards are located on a clay-calcareous terroir, so ideal for growing grapes. Compañía Bodeguera de Valenciso works on a small scale and authentic with a lot of passion. The wine continues to receive international high ratings with 90+ ratings from Penin and Parker.
