Honoro Vera is the new project of the Juan Gil family, who are world-famous for their El Nido and Clio wines, but also own magnificent small estates where the best of the region is brought to the fore on a very small scale. All these wines are gems, each and every one of them. The name Honoro Vera is a tribute to the Gil family, where Honoro is the name of Miquel Gil's grandfather and Vera that of his grandmother.

In 2005, Bodega Ateca, covering 55 hectares, was established in the village of the same name. The Honoro Vera Monastrell is made from Monastrell and Mourvedre grapes sourced from a very old, gnarled vineyard. The vines are planted on calcareous soils without irrigation, resulting in very low yields and without the use of chemical products or synthetic pesticides.

Traditional fermentation is followed by a short aging period in French oak barriques (3-5 months). The wine possesses great aromatic complexity and length with ripe blackberries, smoke, and flowers. This mouth-filling Monastrell, with aromas of blueberries, herbs, and medium acidity, is a full-bodied wine offering excellent value for money. At Juan Gil Wines, everything is sustainably or organically produced.

In Perswijn, the wine has been awarded the status 'Selected', which is not surprising given the exceptionally good price-quality ratio.

Bodega Ateca is nestled in the picturesque region of Calatayud, Spain, it is a hidden gem that captivates wine enthusiasts from around the world, it is part of the Orowines Group, a project led by the Gil family. With a rich history dating back centuries, Ateca embodies the essence of Spanish winemaking traditions while embracing modern techniques.

At the heart of Bodega Ateca’s success lies their dedication to producing outstanding Garnacha wines. Known for its bold flavours and distinctive expression, Garnacha thrives in the Calatayud region, and Sarah Morris, the winemaker, showcases its full potential through her expert craftsmanship.
