Description
Château Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes 2024 – Grand Vin Blanc Sec from Sauternes
The Château Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes 2024 is a characterful, dry white wine from the prestigious Premier Cru Classé terroir of Sauternes. Made exclusively from old vines of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc, this cuvée shows the power and precision of this unique area – in a style that perfectly combines refinement, tension and length.
Terroir and climate: a year of extremes
2024 started with heavy rainfall in the autumn and winter, followed by a wet and mild spring with the necessary challenges such as mildew pressure and uneven flowering. Thanks to a warm, dry summer, the grapes still got going well in their ripening. The harvest took place between 28 August and 13 September , in several phases and under varying conditions - with a strict selection to bring in only the best bunches.
Old sticks, pure expression
The Vieilles Vignes are on average 45 years old and are spread over carefully selected plots. They provide concentration, minerality and depth. This vintage consists of:
56% Sémillon – for structure, ripe white fruit and floral notes,
44% Sauvignon Blanc – which provides liveliness, freshness and finesse.
Vinification and maturation of the 2024 Château Suduiraut Grand Vin Blanc Sec Viellies Vignes
The grapes undergo a soft pneumatic pressing of about 2.5 hours, followed by cold settling at 10°C. Fermentation takes place in wooden barrels (15% of which are new oak), at a controlled temperature of 17 to 22°C. There is no malolactic fermentation , in order to preserve the fresh acids.
Maturation takes place for 9 months , of which:
12% in new barrels ,
the remainder in one-year-old barrels,
with weekly batonnage of the fine lees depending on the vintage.
Tasting notes
The 2024 Suduiraut Vieilles Vignes shines with a refined bouquet of white flowers, pear, fennel and citrus zest . In the mouth, the wine stands out for its texture: silky and broad, but carried by fresh acidity and a subtle saltiness. White peach, almond, lotus root and a hint of white pepper complete the taste experience. According to wine critics, this wine shows great depth, precise structure and aging potential .

A blend of 56% Sémillon and 44% Sauvignon Blanc, the 2024 Blanc sec Vieilles Vignes reveals a floral, gently citrusy bouquet of acacia, white flowers and confit citrus. Medium to full-bodied, enveloping and fleshy, it has good depth at the core and is built around bright acids, concluding with a fresh, anise-inflected finish. This is a real effort.

From: 2024 Bordeaux En Primeur: The Razor’s Edge (Apr 2025)
The 2024 Grand Vin Blanc Sec Vieilles Vignes emerges from 45-year-old vines. Rich, textured and wonderfully deep, the Vieilles Vignes is seriously impressive. The 2024 is not quite as effusive as some earlier vintages, but that is probably a good thing for the long term. Readers will find a potent, deep white loaded with personality. Pear, marzipan, white flowers, mint and chamomile build into the deep, resonant finish. Floral notes and brisk acids resonate on the close.
