Precision, finesse and energy from limestone Château Pavie Macquin

In this vintage, the estate opted resolutely for refinement over muscle, and the result is a wine with a remarkably energetic freshness, fine tannins and beautiful depth.

A characterful terroir, expertly expressed

A blend of 84% Merlot , 15% Cabernet Franc , and 1% Cabernet Sauvignon , harvested from October 3rd to 8th, 2024, this wine exudes the character of its terroir: chalky soils on asteric limestone , cultivated with an eye for tradition and biodiversity. The grapes are vinified plot by plot in concrete tanks with gravity maceration, followed by maturation on fine lees for 16 to 20 months in barriques (50% new wood).

Aromatic complexity and fine structure

From the very first aroma, this wine reveals its class: notes of blueberries, sour plums, black cherries, and floral accents of iris and violet, subtly framed by graphite, sandalwood, and spices. On the palate, it is simultaneously juicy and taut , with a core of pure fruit, crisp acidity, and chalky tannins that provide grip without harshness. The whole exudes calm and control. A wine that subtly reveals its power.

A wine with a story and a long future: Pavie Macquin 2024

The Château Pavie Macquin 2024 masterfully balances depth and lightness, structure and suppleness. The decision to harvest everything in October paid off: this wine combines the natural tension of the year with impressive aromatic precision. The 13% alcohol content underscores its freshness, while the pH of 3.35 creates a lively tension.

This wine is already seductive in its youthful energy, but will truly blossom from 2029 onwards. Its delicate balance and structured freshness give it the potential to age well beyond 2045. A true ambassador of the Saint-Émilion limestone plateau, and one of the quiet standouts of the 2024 vintage.

The terroir of Château Pavie Macquin is characterized by its location on a plateau, next to the Mondot hill and on the edge of the Fongaban in the French municipality of Saint-Emillion. The winery has no less than 3 Premiers Grands Crus Classés.

Château Pavie Macquin vineyards have a limestone-clay soil which expresses the different aspects of the region in the vine. Pavie Macquin wines are known for being powerful, fleshy, fresh with mineral characteristics.

The winery has an impressive position at an altitude ranging from 100 meters above sea level next to the hill, to 65 meters on the edge of the plateau.
