Winery Puro Rofe

For wine lovers, Lanzarote is paradise. Old indigenous vines on lava soils, with Atlantic influences, but most of the wines were mainly cheap tourist wines. Rayco Fernández, a distributor based in Gran Canaria, felt the same way. He decided to do something about it. With a few like-minded partners, he decided to make true terroir wine on the island. And so it happened, and with Puro Rofe, exceptionally fine wines have now been produced in an extreme landscape. The international wine press has also praised the entire range. Puro Rofe is based in Lanzarote and works exclusively with old, ungrafted vines in the island's volcanic soils. The project focuses on pure expression of origin, with minimal intervention and spontaneous fermentation. The vineyards are situated in characteristic pits in black lava ash, protected from the wind. 2023 Puro Rofe Rofe Blanco

Rofe Blanco 2023 is a layered, elegant white blend from volcanic soils, with remarkable finesse and purity.

The wine is a blend of Malvasía Volcánica, Listán Blanco, and Diego. The grapes were pressed directly and fermented spontaneously in stainless steel. The wine aged for eight months in a combination of stainless steel and barriques, transparent and not overpowering in style. The alcohol content is 13%. The total production is only approximately 6,700 bottles.

The 2023 vintage in Lanzarote

2023 was a warm year with an exceptionally large harvest for Lanzarote. Many grapes were already harvested in July, when temperatures were still moderate. This explains the remarkable freshness and elegance of the wines. The vinification is consistent across the estate: direct pressing, fermentation with indigenous yeasts, and an aging process that emphasizes the character of the volcanic soil. The 2023 vintage is considered the most refined and elegant to date and is the estate's first officially certified organic vintage.

Color, smell and taste

In the glass, Rofe Blanco 2023 displays a bright, light golden yellow color. The nose is deep and complex, with notes of Mediterranean herbs, anise, subtle floral accents, and ripe white fruit. The oak is barely noticeable, supporting the structure without dominating. On the palate, the wine combines maturity with fresh acidity and a light creaminess in the texture. The intensity is evident yet remains sharp and elegant, with a long, precise finish that echoes its volcanic origins.

The 2023 Rofe Blanco was awarded 93+ points by The Wine Advocate. The wine is praised for its complexity, finesse, and balance, with greater depth and precision than previous vintages and a drinking window from 2024 to 2030.
