2023 Piekenierskloof Grenache Noir

Piekenierskloof has earned the affectionate nickname 'Grenache HQ' among wine enthusiasts. The region boasts one of the largest plantings of Grenache in the Cape, with an extensive collection of ancient, non-irrigated bushvine vineyards that have stood the test of time and consistently produce exceptional wines.

The winery's vibrant orange labels reflect the Dutch origins of the name Piekenierskloof and the history of citrus growing in the region. Each label also features a Piekenier, which symbolizes new beginnings, family heritage, bountiful harvests and the enjoyment of well-deserved peace and freedom.

The grapes are picked by hand and cold soaked for 24 hours. The fermentation is started with selected yeast strains and is kept below 22°C. Regular over-pumping with splashing for oxygen was applied. The wine then matures for 10 months in older French oak barrels of 500 and 300 liters.

The Grenache Noir has distinct flavors of abundant red raspberry and cherry, with notes of anise and cumin. The wine finishes with a lively, well-balanced and complex tannin structure.
