Joseph Colin is the son of Marc Colin and the younger brother of Pierre-Yves Colin. After Pierre-Yves left in 2003 to start his now-famous PYC, Joseph took over Domaine Marc Colin with his two younger siblings, who had worked with his father since 1993. In 2017, Joseph followed in his older brother's footsteps, acquiring 6+ hectares of the original family estate and making his own wines there. The practice of gifting the eldest children some of the world's finest vines to help them forge their own paths in the wine world is a Burgundian tradition. In the Colin family's case, the parcels they received include some of the finest Chardonnay plots around St. Aubin, Puligny, and Chassagne. Joseph began working full-time with his father at such a young age and knows the vines in this white Burgundian mecca like no other, meticulously caring for each plot. He takes a hands-off approach in the cellar, fermenting with indigenous yeast and aging all the wines in 350L barrels on their fine lees until bottling, in keeping with the style of his brother, Pierre Yves, and of course his father, Marc Coline, and mother, Carloine Morey. The wines are all top examples of this most sacred terroir of Chardonnay, with a tension and verve so sought after but rarely found.

This Joseph Colin Saint Aubin Compendium is, of course, a 100% Chardonnay. The grapes come from a postage-stamp vineyard plot in St. Aubin (two-thirds from Le Banc and Champ Tirant, one-third from Tope Bataille, Au Bas de Jorcul, and En l'Ebaupin). The vines are over 25 years old and the vineyards are situated at an altitude of 350-400 meters on clay-limestone soils with many stones. The wine is fermented with indigenous yeasts and aged in oak barrels (25% new). The delightful Saint-Aubin Compendium has a seductive bouquet with vibrant citrus, orange peel, and dandelion aromas.
