Cerbaiona Winery

Cerbaiona is one of Montalcino's historic estates and rose to prominence in the 1970s under the leadership of Diego Molinari. Its small, artisanal production and uncompromising focus on quality made the estate a favorite with lovers of traditional Brunello. In 2015, Cerbaiona was acquired by a new group of investors led by Matthew Fioretti, who carefully renovated the estate while respecting its original character. Old vineyards were replanted, sections converted to Alberello plantings, and the cellar was completely modernized. At the same time, the focus remains on precision, terroir, and the purity of the fruit.

2023 Cerbaiano Grammar Rosso

The Grammatica Rosso is Cerbaiona's entry-level wine and forms the foundation of the range. The name refers to grammar as the foundation of language: just as grammar structures words, this wine forms the foundation upon which the estate's style rests. The majority of the grapes come from Cerbaiona's own vineyards, supplemented by a small portion of carefully selected grapes from nearby plots.

Vinification and maturation

After fermentation, the wine is aged in used third- and fourth-pass oak barrels. This gives the wine structure and complexity without the overpowering woody aromas. The wine then rests in cement and glass before being released. This approach results in a pure style characterized by balance and bright fruit.

The 2023 vintage

The 2023 vintage produces a wine with a beautiful combination of volume and refinement. According to Monica Larner (The Wine Advocate), the wine displays an attractive texture and a calm, confident structure that makes it particularly suitable for table service. The style remains elegant and nuanced, without being overly powerful, but with sufficient depth and precision.

Color, smell and taste

Bright ruby red in color. The nose reveals notes of red cherries, ripe strawberries, and subtle spices, complemented by light earthy nuances and a hint of dried flowers.

Smooth and balanced on the palate, with refined tannins and fresh acidity that give the wine structure. The fruit remains clear and precise, with an elegant texture and a harmonious finish. The style is deliberately understated and gastronomic, making the wine an excellent match for a wide variety of dishes.

Production and character

Only 10,350 bottles of the 2023 Grammatica Rosso were produced. It's a wine that perfectly reflects Cerbaiona's philosophy: a focus on balance, purity, and drinkability, without losing sight of the complexity of the terroir.
