Aldeneyck Wine Estate belongs to the absolute top of Belgium and is regarded as one of the leading wine producers of the Meuse Valley. The estate was founded by Johan and Marleen Neyens and is located in Aldeneik, near Maaseik, in a unique location along the Meuse. Thanks to gravelly soils, a relatively cool climate, and a strong focus on precision, Aldeneyck has specialized in refined wines with tension and terroir expression. Region, climate and location

The Pinot Noir from Aldeneyck comes from the Meuse Valley in Limburg, a wine region that has developed strongly in recent years. The proximity of the Meuse plays an important role in the microclimate. The river moderates temperature fluctuations and limits the risk of spring frost, while the stony pebble and gravel soils store heat and gradually release it at night.

These conditions are particularly favorable for Pinot Noir. The grape requires a cool climate to preserve finesse, tension, and aromatic precision. In the Meuse Valley, this results in a style that revolves more around elegance and terroir expression than power. The 2023 vintage displays a beautiful balance between ripe fruit, freshness, and refinement.

Vineyards and grape varieties

The 2022 Aldeneyck Pinot Noir is made from 100% Pinot Noir sourced from carefully selected vineyards in the Meuse Valley of Limburg. The stony soil provides extra finesse, tension, and distinct minerality, while the relatively long ripening imparts extra aromatic depth to the grapes.

At Aldeneyck, there is a strong focus on meticulous vineyard selection and manual harvesting. The combination of a cool climate, low yields, and precise selection helps to ripen Pinot Noir optimally without loss of elegance. This results in a wine that combines a pure grape expression with a clear influence of terroir.

Harvest, vinification and aging

The grapes for the 2022 Pinot Noir are harvested entirely by hand. After picking, a cold maceration of five days follows, during which color, aroma, and finesse are gently extracted from the skins. Next, a fermentation of approximately three weeks takes place, during which daily pigeage and remontage are applied to build structure and aromatic complexity.

After fermentation, the wine ages for twelve months in French oak pièces, of which approximately 25% is new wood. The barrels used come from Tonnellerie Chassin in Rully, Burgundy, a producer known for subtle and refined wood integration. As a result, the fruit remains central and the wine gains extra depth without dominant oak influence.

Color, smell and taste

The 2022 Aldeneyck Pinot Noir displays a deep ruby red color with bright brilliance. On the nose, the wine opens refined and pure, with aromas of black cherries, wild blackberries, and ripe red fruit. These are followed by subtle wood notes and refined spicy accents that feel beautifully integrated.

On the palate, the velvety texture is immediately noticeable. The wine combines ripe fruit with refined tension and a strikingly elegant mouthfeel. Ripe tannins provide structure without severity, while fresh acidity ensures energy and length. The influence of the terroir is clearly evident in the form of minerality and a light earthy undertone.

What impresses most is the balance between fruit, structure, and finesse. The wine feels seductive and smooth, yet retains sufficient depth and tension to be taken seriously. The subtle oak influence supports the whole beautifully and adds extra layering. The finish is long, refined, and mouth-filling, with a beautiful combination of fruit, spiciness, and terroir expression.
