Description
Cantina Santadi's Rocca Rubia Riserva 2021 is a prestigious red wine from the Carignano del Sulcis appellation on the Italian island of Sardinia. This wine is produced exclusively from the Carignano grape, sourced from old vines deeply rooted in the sandy terroir of Sulcis.
The grapes for Rocca Rubia are carefully harvested by hand and undergo traditional fermentation. The wine then ages for 12 months in small French oak barrels, which contributes to the development of complex aromas and a harmonious structure.
The Santadi Rocca Rubia Riserva Carignano del Sulcis has an intense ruby red color. The bouquet reveals fruity notes of blackberry, blueberry, vanilla, myrtle, leather, and licorice. The palate is expansive and velvety, with excellent structure and a long, aromatic finish, offering a captivating balance of fruit and tannin.
Cantina Santadi is one of Sardinia's most renowned wine cooperatives, located in the southwestern part of the island, in the Sulcis region, near the coast. Founded in the 1960s, the winery has become a major player in the Italian wine world, known for its expressive wines made from indigenous grape varieties and its strong connection to the local terroir.

The 2015 Cannonau di Sardegna Noras is in fact made with 90% Cannonau and 10% Carignano. This is a terrific mid-level wine that shows good value and an accessible style that makes it perfect for just about any homemade pasta, especially a Sardinian malloreddus alla campidanese: a shell-shaped pasta with a sausage and pecorino ragù. The wine offers pretty primary fruit with blackberry, wild cherry and rose, all backed by subtle smoke and wet earth. This vintage delivers a very ripe, succulent and fruity character. It's good fun all around.
Cantina Santadi is a cooperative winery located in the southwest quadrant of the island, in the Sulcis area, where the Carignano grape has always enjoyed the limelight. Sandy soils, proximity to the sea, and a warm, dry climate mean that many old vines survived phylloxera and are still productive today. The 2018 vintage saw above average rain across the island of Sardinia, says Cantina Santadi's President Antonello Pilloni. Those rains lasted a very long time, from May through to August and September. This presented vintners with many challenges, although island breezes and winds, ever-present in Sardinia, plus well-draining sandy soils and careful fruit selection gave those vintners the upper edge.

Sage and balsamic spice complement plum and cherry sauce masses as the 2019 Cannonau di Sardegna Noras grumbles up from the glass. This is texturally deep and nearly velvety in feel. Refreshing acidity and sour citrus tones balance as red and black fruits swirl throughout. It finishes staining, long and lightly structured, leaving a pleasantly bitter tinge and a bit of forgivable heat to stand out.
