Puro Rofe Winery
Puro Rofe is a relatively young project on Lanzarote, founded with the aim of expressing the island's unique volcanic terroir as purely as possible. The focus is on old vineyards, minimal intervention, and working with indigenous grape varieties. The style is geared towards precision, freshness, and transparency, with the terroir at the center. The estate works organically and experiments with various vinification methods to enhance the finesse and identity of the wines. More information about this winery can be found under the Winery tab.
Region, climate and location
Lanzarote is one of the most extreme wine regions in Europe, with volcanic soils and a dry, windy climate. The vineyards are situated in hollows that offer protection against the constant trade winds. The black volcanic soils absorb heat and contribute to the ripening of the grapes, while the underlying layers ensure water retention. The 2023 vintage experienced a relatively warm period, but due to an early harvest, the wines remained remarkably fresh and elegant, with clear tension and precision.
Vineyards and grape varieties
Juan Bello is a specific paraje in Masdache, situated on a volcanic hill with old vines over a hundred years old. The vineyards are planted in traditional pits in the volcanic soil. The blend consists primarily of Malvasía Volcánica, complemented by Listán Blanco and Diego. This combination ensures aromatic refinement and a distinct mineral structure, in which the influence of the terroir comes strongly to the fore.
Harvest, vinification and aging
The grapes were largely harvested in July, at a time when temperatures were still relatively moderate. After direct pressing, fermentation followed in stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts. A portion of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation, resulting in a slightly softer mouthfeel. Aging lasted approximately eight months and took place in a combination of stainless steel and used wooden barrels of approximately 500 liters. The use of wood is highly integrated and supports the structure without being dominant.
Color, smell and taste
The wine has a very light, clear color. On the nose, refined aromas of citrus, white fruit, and subtle floral notes emerge, complemented by a distinct mineral and slightly salty undertone. The aromatic expression remains restrained yet precise and develops gradually in the glass.
On the palate, the wine is tight and linear, with a slender structure and a clear focus on freshness. The acidity is lively and provides tension, while the texture remains round and refined. The wine has a clean structure and pronounced minerality, clearly revealing its volcanic origins. The finish is long and saline, with a fresh and elegant finale that lingers and continues to develop.
Development and drinking window
The drinking window is between 2024 and 2032. The wine is already accessible when young, but will further develop in complexity and depth over the coming years. The structure and balance indicate that the wine will develop positively within this window.

Juan Bello is a paraje in the village of Masdache on a volcanic mountain with traditional holes planted with centenary vines of Malvasía Volcánica with Listán Blanco and Diego grapes. The 2023 Juan Bello has 13.7% alcohol, a pH of 3.45 and 5.06 acidity, and some barrels went through malolactic fermentation, giving it a more mellow profile. All the wines have very integrated oak, making it unnoticeable, and they have improved the quality of their barrels, some Austrian and Italian 500-liter ones that have been used with their wines before, and that's noticeable. The wine is very pale, elegant, sleek and polished, clean, precise and with a saltier finish than other years. 1,950 bottles were filled in May 2024.
2023 saw a huge crop in Lanzarote, a warm year with three million kilos, which was normal before (2015, 2017), but the last few years have been very small (and 2024 is small again, but they didn't make wine in 2024). Most of the grapes were picked in July when it was not that warm, but the wines are fresher and very elegant. All the wines have a similar vinification and élevage, direct pressing, fermentation in stainless steel with indigenous yeasts and eight months in a mixture of stainless steel and used barrels, quite transparent and non-invasive. The 2023s are the first wines to carry the organic certification, the more elegant and finest vintage to date. Bravo!

Lanzarote
