Description
Eve and Michel Rey run this small estate together in the village of Vergisson, beautifully situated between the Roche de Vergisson and the Roche de Solutré. They do all the work in the cellar and the vineyard themselves and therefore know every vine. Michel is an exceptionally eager winemaker and Eve is a great perfectionist. This is probably why the wines from this relatively young estate have improved greatly in recent years. No insecticides or pesticides are used, the soil is cultivated all year round with respect for nature and the grapes are picked by hand, with the grapes being transported in small crates. What delicious and young drinkable wines for this price!
Eve and Michel Rey take care of their vines as naturally as possible, and because they have so few vineyards, they can tend all of their vines by hand. They use only organic treatments, if any, and plough the soil instead of using herbicides.
Grapes are crushed whole bunch in a soft pneumatic press and fermented on indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Wines are aged for a minimum of 10 months in mostly used French oak barrels. Very little sulphur is added at any stage; and wines are bottled unfiltered.
The Pouilly Fuisse sur la Roche has a refined elegant nose with aromas of yellow fruit and herbs (tarragon), further some vanilla due to the use of wood. In the mouth the attack is full and slightly buttery but what is especially noticeable is the long and mineral finish. If you are looking for a complete high-quality Pouilly Fusee at a nice price that is made without poison/pesticides and artificial fertilizers then Eve & Michel Rey can strongly recommend Pouilly Fuisse sur la Roche. The nose is complex and rich with a floral dominance. The maturation notes, of fairly integrated wood, remain underlying and contribute to the general intensity of this wine.
The power in the mouth remains quite impressive. As they say 'this wine smells of stones' and that is really what happens here: strong minerality, intense toasting that fits perfectly and a citrus-mandarin finish complete the whole.
FACT: The wine is in our conditioned Wine Warehouse and if you come to pick up the wine you will also receive a nice discount. We are almost next to the Rijksweg with plenty of parking. Click here for address.

Domaine Michel Rey is a small domaine in Vergisson where organic work is done. Eve and Michel Rey run this small domaine together in the beautiful village of Vergisson between the Roche de Vergisson and the Roche de Solutré. They do all the work in the cellar and the vineyard themselves and therefore know every vine. As a winemaker, Michel is extremely eager to learn and Eve is a huge perfectionist. That is probably why the wines of this relatively young winery have improved considerably in recent years. No insecticides or pesticides are used, the soil is worked all year round with respect for nature and the grapes are picked by hand and transported in small boxes. The price / quality is very good for their entire range.
The vineyards are sandwiched between two gigantic rocks: Roche de Vergisson and the famous Roche de Solutré. Eve comes from an old winemaking family in Julienas (Beaujolais), where they also own 1 hectare of vineyard. She does everything together with her husband Michel, who learned the trade from his father-in-law. As a winemaker, he is extremely eager to learn. He is one of the fast rising stars of the Maconnais. Although Michel will be the last to admit that and fortunately that is also reflected in the price. He prefers to work all day in the vineyards.
