The history of this 1er Grand Cru Classé goes back to 1745 when it was still called Domaine de Mondot and was part of Château Pavie, now 1er Grand Cru Classé A. With the arrival of Raymond Troplong in 1850, the two names were merged and Château Troplong Mondot was a fact. Château Troplong Mondot was the first Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion. This 43-hectare estate, located at the highest point of the appellation, is fully exposed. The terroir of Ch. Troplong Mondot is located at the top of the highest point of the Côte Pavie, in Saint Laurent de Combes, where the greatest wines of Saint Emilion are made. The soil is rich in limestone and planted with 90% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Harvesting is done entirely by hand. Maturation takes place for 18 months in barriques, 75% of which are new. The famous oenologist Michel Rolland has been guiding this winery since 1980.

The Troplong Mondot 2022 is a blend of 85% Merlot, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc. Very attractive aromas of plums and chocolate with hints of raspberry bush and hazelnut. So fresh and even savoury with medium to full body. A broad tannin structure builds in the mouth with a huge finish. One of the top wines of 2022 with scores that come top of the St.Emilion.

FACT: Also worth mentioning that we buy the (Bordeaux) wines directly and never through intermediaries because then we do not know which journeys the wine has made and how it has been treated. The wines come from the cellars of the Chateau directly to our conditioned Warehouse in Dordrecht where all our wines are stored.

The slogan at Château Troplong Mondot is: TROPLONG MONDOT CANNOT BE EXPLAINED: IT NEEDS TO BE LIVED. Château Troplong Mondot was the first Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Emilion. It is a special place and  manages its territory like  a garden cultivated vineyard  Located at the highest point of the appellation, this 43-hectare estate is fully exposed. The terroir of Ch. Troplong Mondot is located atop the highest point of the Côte Pavie, in Saint Laurent de Combes, where the greatest wines of Saint Emilion are made.

Wine merchant Alexandre Valette bought the castle in the early 1900s. Christine Valette-Pariente and her husband Xavier Pariente sold the castle to the insurance company SCOR in 2017, after which it has undergone a true renaissance under the leadership of Aymeric de Gironde. The oenologist guru Michel Rolland has also been employed here since 1980. The Les Belles Perdrix restaurant will open there in June 2021 and will be awarded a Michelin star in 2022.
