Description
Château Margaux is one of the most famous wine estates in the world. It is located in Bordeaux near the town of Margaux. Château Margaux is classified as a Premier Grand Cru Classé according to the Bordeaux wine classification system of 1855. The estate comprises 82 hectares for red wine and 12 hectares for white wine. On these 94 hectares, 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 1% Cabernet Franc are grown. For the white wine, 12 hectares of Sauvignon Blanc are planted. The second wine of the estate is called Pavillon rouge. The white wine "Pavillon Blanc" is considered the best white wine of the Médoc. Since 2009, Château Margaux also produces a third wine called "Margaux du Château Margaux". This third wine has been produced since 1997, but until 2009 it was always sold in bulk to other wine producers. As one of the largest and best known producers in the Margaux, Chateau Margaux produces an average of 25,000 cases of their Grand vin.
Château Margaux's 2022 Grand Vin is without a doubt a great wine. This is largely due to the concentration of the grapes. In 2022, due to the dry summer, the Cabernet Sauvignon grapes were 35% smaller than in an average year. The 2022 vintage is 92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc. As a result of these climatic conditions, the 2022 vintage is around 14.5% alcohol. Château Margaux used 40% of the harvest this year. Robert Parker calls the 2022 Château Margaux one of the most powerful wines ever produced by this producer. It shows aromas of crème de cassis, dark berries, violets, burning embers, smoky tea and exotic spices. Full, deep and layered, rich, velvety and seamless, with a bright core of fruit and a long, heady finish. In OWC/1
FACT: Also worth mentioning that we buy the (Bordeaux) wines directly and never through intermediaries because then we do not know which journeys the wine has made and how it has been treated. The wines come from the cellars of the Chateau directly to our conditioned Warehouse in Dordrecht where all our wines are stored.
