Château Haut-Bailly has a distinctive style that beautifully combines classic with modernity, elegance, finesse, and softness with structure. The smoothness of the tannins creates elegant and complex aromas. Château Haut-Bailly can age for many years, but it is also a delightful wine to drink now. This Château Haut-Bailly has received high praise from wine experts, who agree that it offers complex pleasures and possesses a richness that is neither aggressive nor ostentatious. All these beautiful attributes this wine possesses are primarily due to the grape selection process and the landscape and climate in which the grapes are grown.
Soil experts have established that Haut Bailly boasts one of the finest terroirs in Pessac-Léognan. Great wines are born from the interplay of soil, location, climate, and humankind. The wines have always been excellent, but in recent years they have increased even more. Haut-Bailly is known for its softness and silky texture. The wine has incredible potential, with refined tannins and softly sweet, complex fruit nuances. The 2022 vintage was characterized by extreme climatic conditions, but everything leads Haut Bailly to believe that this heralds, or foreshadows, the climate we will encounter in the coming decades. What seems extraordinary today will become, if not the norm, then at least commonplace tomorrow. But also, the decisions made year after year regarding vineyard management. The choice made at Haut-Bailly to cultivate sustainably by preserving an old vineyard takes on its full meaning under extreme conditions. The deep roots of the vines, due to their age and the work done on the soil, give them a remarkable capacity for resistance.
The months of September through November were warm and dry, and the harvest began early under ideal conditions. Merlots were harvested from September 7th to 14th, and Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon from September 19th to 27th. The 2022 vintage is a blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. The winery, inaugurated at the end of 2020, was designed and developed to best adapt to climate change. The new facilities, including cold rooms, a wide variety of barrels for vinification by plot, and an underground aging cellar, allow Haut-Bailly to both preserve and refine the fruit, creating wines that combine power and elegance, density and freshness. This 2022 vintage is therefore doubly satisfying. The satisfaction that they have produced a very good wine and the confidence that we will continue to produce it in the years to come.
FACT: Under the "Attachment" tab, you'll find the official fact sheet, which we'll send you digitally when you order this wine. It's also worth mentioning that we purchase our (Bordeaux) wines directly and never through intermediaries, as we don't know all the journeys the wine has made and how it's been treated. The wines come directly from the Chateau's cellars to our climate-controlled warehouse in Dordrecht, where all our wines are stored .

The 2022 Haut-Bailly offers up aromas of dark berries complemented by accents of iris, lilac, rose petals, graphite and licorice. Medium to full-bodied, dense and concentrated, dense, it's layered and textural, with a deep core of fruit, powdery tannins and a penetrating, saline finish. Vinified along traditional lines, it is a structured wine that will take some time to hit its stride, but at this early stage it appears suppler and more seamless than its 2020 and 2019 predecessors. A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc from grapes picked from September 7 to 27, it's maturing half in new barriques and half in one- or two-year-old barrels.

Score : 97-98
Incredible complexity of aromas here with ripe currants and blackberries, but also dried flowers like violets and roses. Then there’s forest flower character such as bark, mushroom and sandalwood. Black truffles. Full-bodied with tight and chewy tannins that are polished and pure, with a solid and tight finish. It builds on your palate and frames the wine beautifully. 56% cabernet sauvignon, 37% merlot, 5% petit verdot and 2% cabernet franc.

From: You’re Unbelievable: Bordeaux 2022 (May 2023)
The 2022 Haut-Bailly was picked between 7 and 27 September and underwent a four-week cuvaison, taking longer to consume the sugar and was matured in 50% new oak. It has a bouquet that compels you just to sit and contemplate. It gradually unfolds with blackberry, raspberry, potpourri and iris flower scents, well-defined, not showy but suave. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannins. Minerals, black pepper and clove off a gentle grip with an impressive crescendo. It will need a decade in bottle. This Haut-Bailly has a haunting beauty, the kind of wine that will bring people to tears!

Soil research experts have found that Château Haut-Bailly has one of the finest terroirs in the Pessac-Léognan. Great wines are created by the interplay between soil, location, climate and people. The wines have always been good, but have increased even more in quality in recent years. Haut-Bailly is known for its softness and silky texture. The vineyard is managed according to strict traditions and chemical herbicides are never used. Spraying is carefully limited, the soil is plowed and weeded with hoes, and the grapes are picked entirely by hand. The vinification takes place in a fermentation chamber with 26 thermo-regulated cement tanks of different sizes (ranging from 30 to 120 hectoliters). These specially adapted barrels ensure that the grapes, grown in different parts of the vineyard, are kept completely separate from the moment they are picked until the vinification.
The winemaking process takes place in cement tanks, while blending is done in stainless steel tanks - a great example of how tradition and modernity go hand in hand at Château Haut-Bailly. Alcoholic fermentation lasts eight to ten days and is followed by maceration. This process takes about three weeks during which the wine never overheats. In this way, a perfectly balanced wine is achieved.
