Description
Domaine Anne Gros & Jean Paul Tollot are two very well-known winemakers from Burgundy and have joined forces in the South of France and started working there and if this top level works together, success is assured. The wines of Anne Gros and Jean Paul Tollot are of high quality and receive wonderful reviews in the press.
Domaine Anne Gros & Jean Paul Tollot is located in the Causse, which is without a doubt the best part of the Minervois, partly due to its altitude, which varies from 200 m to almost 500 m. This results in the lowest night temperatures in the Minervois and a slower thermal warming in spring.
The Anne Gros & Jean Paul Tollot Les Fontanilles is a blend of Syrah - Grenache - Carignan - Cinsault coming from the most beautiful plots, all oriented to the northwest, surrounded by thickets of pine trees, wild thyme and rosemary, on which these 4 varieties of the domain grow . It is a so-called field-blend vineyard, so all grapes are grown in the vineyard. The vineyard has a size of only 3HA. Here the grapes are of course picked by hand and in different cycles, so only the perfectly grabbed bunches are picked and those that are not yet that far are allowed to ripen further. The vines are between 25-50 years old and are located on marrow-sandstone-clay-limestone soils. After picking, the wine ages for 12 months and even with this top wine from Anne Gros and Jean Paul Toulot, the fruit must dominate, so 50% is aged in oak and the remaining 50% remains in stainless steel. Les Fontanilles is a cuvée that combines ripeness and freshness, offering a bouquet of red and black fruits and peppery spices. This wine goes particularly well with grilled meat and barbecues. Blissful, elegant and wonderfully balanced.

The 2017 Minervois Les Fontanilles—a blend of Syrah, Grenache, Carignan and Cinsault—comes from a cool, north-facing plot surrounded by garrigue. The wine is medium to full-bodied and supple, with the red-toned fruit picking up hints of resinous herbs, like rosemary and bay leaf, on the finish. Half of the wine was aged in barrel, half in tank, but the wood isn't particularly prominent, maybe just adding a touch of roundness around the edges and hints of cedar and vanilla on the nose.
This estate, owned by a couple of Burgundians, seems to reflect those northern roots in the style of the wines, which emphasize acidity and freshness more so than many others in the Languedoc.

Domaine Anne Gros & Jean Paul Tollot are two very well-known winemakers from Burgundy and have joined forces in the South of France and have started working there and if this top level works together then success is assured. The wines of Anne Gros and Jean Paul Tollot are of high quality and receive wonderful reviews in the press. Dark, smooth wines, convincing and very well made. The use of very old vines gives these wines an unprecedented dimension and depth. We can highly recommend the wines from this house and we are convinced that you will not be as enthusiastic as we are.
The wines they make come from the sub-region de Minervois. The Minervois is one of the largest wine producing areas in the Languedoc Roussillon. From nearly 15,000 hectares of vines, 5,000 of which are intended for the production of AOC wines, the wide range of vins de table, vins de pays and wines from single grape varieties is completed by three different AOCS: the AOC Minervois, the AOC Minervois - La Livinière and the Muscat de Saint Jean de Minervois. The Minervois appellation is divided into 5 different zones: the balconies of the Aude, the Causse, the Mourels, the Petit Causse and the Terrasses.
Domaine Anne Gros & Jean Paul Tollot is located in the Causse which is without a doubt the best part due to its altitude, which varies from 200 m to almost 500 m. This results in the lowest nighttime temperatures in the Minervois and a slower thermal warming in the spring. The semi-mountainous climate of this zone is also characterized by heavier and more regular rainfall than in the Minervois in general. Another important feature of the Causse is the predominance of calcareous soils, which can lead to a very stony surface. Whether the stone is hard or soft, the whiteness it imparts to the soil indirectly heats the plants and grapes through radiation.
The wines of the Causse are often more lively than in the other zones and are characterized by its freshness and its mouth after tannins that take two to three years to soften.
