Description
Domaine Alvina Pernot
Domaine Alvina Pernot is a young but rapidly maturing estate in Puligny-Montrachet. Alvina Pernot and her husband, Philippe Abadie, combine meticulous viticulture with a clear focus on terroir purity and finesse. Through the limited use of new oak and careful selection of grapes, they create wines that are clear, precise, and remarkably pure in style.
The estate operates primarily within Puligny-Montrachet, but also produces wines from other prestigious areas. The Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru is among the most significant wines from this expansion, showcasing a different, cooler perspective on their style.
Corton-Charlemagne: power, freshness and chalky tension
Corton-Charlemagne is one of Burgundy's most historic Grand Crus. The vineyard is situated high on the Corton hillside, on steep slopes and chalky soils known for their taut, mineral expression. The Alvina Pernot grapes are sourced specifically from the Pernand-Vergelesses region, a zone that produces wines with freshness, tension, and refined aromatic precision.
The style of this parcel is often slightly cooler and tighter than that of the surrounding hillsides. This produces a wine with distinct chalky notes, lively acidity, and a slow but layered development.
2022 vintage, vinification and maturation
The 2022 harvest is described by the estate as the largest to date, with healthy and fully ripe grapes. Harvesting began on August 28th and was carried out entirely by hand. Fermentation took place in stainless steel and in used wooden barrels, ranging in age from one to four years, ensuring the wood never overpowers the terroir.
The aging lasted eleven to twelve months, a relatively short period due to the limited cellar space. This brief aging keeps the wine open, fresh, and precise. The style focuses on tension, clarity, and a precise expression of its chalky origins.
Color, aroma and taste of the 2022 Corton-Charlemagne
The wine has a clear, light golden color with a fresh sparkle. The aroma reveals vibrant citrus notes, such as lime and lemon cream, along with yellow apple and floral accents. The chalky origins lend a distinct, stony freshness. As the wine ages, nuances of candied orange peel and a subtle spiciness emerge. The aroma is intense and shows a greater concentration than in the previous vintage.
The palate is fresh and taut from the first sip. The wine has a precise structure, supported by lively acidity that provides direction and tension. Citrus, apple, and floral notes form the core of the flavor profile, complemented by a light touch of orange peel. The concentration gradually becomes more pronounced, giving the wine more breadth without losing its freshness.
The finish reveals subtle spice and grainy notes combined with the chalky tension typical of Pernand-grown Corton-Charlemagne. The palate lingers long with citrus and minerality. Based on the review, this wine will continue to blossom and develop more depth in the coming years.

Notes of citrus oil, freshly baked bread, crisp Anjou pear, white flowers and orange oil introduce the 2020 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru, a medium to full-bodied, textural and incisive wine with a fleshy mid-palate allied with promising cut and grip. It's a fine success.
Alvina Pernot was awaiting the imminent birth of her latest child when I visited, so I tasted this year with her husband Philippe at their new winery on Puligny's Rue de Bois, a facility that will give them all the space they need to master the élevage and, increasingly, the pressing of the fruit that produces their wines. Readers will recall that, after working for three years at her grandfather's Domaine Paul Pernot, Alvina and Philippe had set up a tiny domaine & maison in Puligny-Montrachet. All of their 2018 vintage was produced from Alvina's share of the Pernot family holdings, but only the Puligny-Montrachet La Rue Aux Vaches was harvested and pressed (vertically) in house, as the rest of the cuvées come from Domaine Paul Pernot in must; that held true in 2019 too, though the range was supplemented by several new appellations, the result of exchanges with other growers. In 2020, this label's most successful vintage to date, La Rue Aux Vaches is joined by another Puligny lieu-dit cuvée that's pressed in house, the Clos des Noyers Brets. Within the Pernot holdings, Alvina and her husband favor earlier-picked fruit and higher-altitude parcels, but it's these cuvées that are harvested and pressed in house that really give the measure of what we can expect in the years to come. Readers will note that all the wines are bottled under high-quality natural cork.

From: Now, For My Latest Trick: Burgundy 2022 (Jan 2024)
The 2022 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru comes from the Pernand side. It has a well-defined nose with more concentration than the previous vintage: lemon curd, broom, touches of lime and candied orange peel. The palate is taut and fresh on the entry with a fine bead of acidity, but it doesn't quite possess the complexity of the Puligny Premier Crus on the cereal-tinged finish.
- By Neal Martin on October 2023
I met Philippe Abadie, Alvina Pernot’s husband, over the weekend. When I visited last year, their winery on the fringe of Puligny was still under construction. Now, it is completed with all the mod-cons: swish tasting room, electric car charger outside and clean as a whistle. These have been very impressive wines since I first tasted the 2020s, and the 2022s have expanded the line-up to around 20 cuvées. “Around 80% of the production is from Alvina’s family and 20% exchange of musts with friends,” he tells me. “Two are in Saint-Aubin. In 2020, we made a Meursault Charmes, and now we have Les Perrières. We began the harvest on August 28. We don’t use a lot of new oak, but a lot of one to four-year-old barrels, with quite a short aging period of 11 and 12 months. Sometimes, we would love to age a few months more, especially for the Grands Crus, but we don’t have the space. Then again, we don’t use a lot of new oak, and we want to see the terroir in our wines. The 2022 vintage was the largest ever at 30,000 bottles; honestly, we are at the limit for two people working at the winery. Everything was bottled just before the harvest. We will begin taking back some red parcels in the future from Alvina’s father. From 2023, we will stop the Saint-Romain due to space restrictions as we will have a Champs Gain, and our focus is upon Puligny Premier Crus.” You should definitely look out for this recent addition to the Puligny. At the entry-level end, seek out their 2022 Bourgogne Côte d’Or Les Femelottes or Puligny-Montrachet Clos des Noyers Bret. Up the scale, the Meursaults from Les Perrières and Poruzots. The Pulignys from Les Caillerets and Les Pucelles are enchanting, precise and focused with saline finishes. If you can find it, the 2022 Chevaliers-Montrachet is fabulous, though the Bâtard-Montrachet is nipping at its ankles.
