Description
The Aalto Blanco de Parcela Fuente de las Hontanillas 2022 is an exclusive white wine from the prestigious Spanish winery Aalto, located in the Ribera del Duero region. This wine is mainly made from the Verdejo grape, supplemented with smaller percentages of Godello and Albillo. The grapes come from the vineyard "Fuente de las Hontanillas" in Quintanilla de Arriba, at an altitude of more than 850 meters.
The vineyard is located on chalky soils, which contributes to the freshness and minerality of the wine. The 2022 vintage had unique climatic conditions, with a dry start and intense heat waves in June and July, resulting in an early harvest in early September. After the manual harvest, the grapes undergo fermentation in 500-liter French oak barrels, followed by aging on the lees. This method gives the wine complexity and a full mouthfeel.
In the glass, Aalto Blanco de Parcela has a bright straw yellow color with golden reflections. On the nose we smell aromas of red apple, complemented by subtle citrus notes. On the palate the wine is fresh, but also full with a pleasant acidity and a long, balanced aftertaste.

The white 2022 Blanco de Parcela Fuente de las Hontanillas is pale, subtle, elegant and insinuating and a little shy and closed at first. It has a sensational palate that is fresh and balanced, chalky and tasty with minerality. It has a little higher alcohol this ripe and dry year, but still 13%, with a very low pH (3.04) and very high acidity (6.92 grams) that give it a sharp personality. It's a blend of Verdejo and Albillo that matured in barrel for 11 months, but the oak is unnoticeable. 7,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2023.
Aalto keeps faithful to the ripe, powerful and generously oaked profile that made its red wines famous. But their white is the opposite—sharp and fresh, with unnoticeable oak. They control 130 hectares of old vines in nine villages of Ribera del Duero with which they produce 380,000 bottles annually.

The 2022 Aalto Blanco de Parcela is primarily made from Verdejo with some dashes of Godello, a pair of grape varieties not allowed in Ribera del Duero, which is why it is labeled as Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León. Green in the glass. The captivating oxidative aromatic profile features green apple, Williams pear and fennel. Both rich and refreshing, with malic tartness and a vibrant, dry finish, this is a highly gastronomic wine.

Established in 1999 by Javier Zaccanini and the legendary winemaker Mariano García, Aalto was a bold step into the modern era for Ribera del Duero. The concrete and glass winery, completed in 2005, runs on gravity and boasts expansive barrel rooms. The Masaveu and Nozaleda families, who have long histories in Spanish winemaking, joined the venture in 2006. Harvesting from 130 hectares of old vines spread across 200 plots in nine municipalities, Aalto crafts reds with a rich but delicate structure. Their PS takes things up a notch, emphasizing power and opulence. Their Blanco de Parcela explores the possibilities of Verdejo and Godello, pushing the limits for whites in the region. Aalto is very much the embodiment of a modern Ribera del Duero winery.

Aalto was founded in 1999 by Mariano Garcia and Javier Zaccagnini. Mariano Garcia, can look back on a thirty-year career at the famous Vega Sicilia, and is generally regarded as Spain's number 1 winemaker. Thanks to him, Vega Sicilia has acquired name and fame.

Javier Zaccagnini was president of the 'Consejo Regulador' in Ribera del Duero for 6 years. As a result, both have good contacts and ties of friendship with the prominent owners of sufficient, unique vineyards in the best villages of the Ribera del Duero appellation. These owners are today suppliers of the finest Tinto Fino for Aalto and Aalto PS. Both gentlemen are true perfectionists, nothing is left to fate. Bodegas Aalto has approximately 42 hectares of vineyards, of which 32 hectares are planted with blue grape varieties.
The grapes undergo a selection test at the Table de tri. At the slightest irregularity, the bunch of grapes are completely discarded. Afterwards, everything runs according to gravity, so that abrupt actions of the wine pumps disappear, Mariano and Javier want to design plans for the winery themselves. After a 30-month supply in exclusively French oak, the selection is made between Aalto and Aalto PS. Their objective is to vinify a wine that reaches the highest quality status within 20 years.
