Description
In 1992 Thomas Haag, the son of the celebrated Brauneberg winemaker Wilhelm Haag, took over the Schloss. It was already very good, but Thomas has made it a Champions League domain by working hard. According to the Gault Millau, it belongs to the very best in Germany. And the only domain in Germany to receive the highest award in all guides! The suppleness and drinkability are trademarks of Schloss Lieser, such elegance and above all the temptation to swallow a wine can be found at few other producers. In short, a must have!
Thomas describes the 2021 volume as follows:
2021 gave us a very classic, moseltypical Riesling year. After a cool, wet spring and changing weather in summer, September brought us a lot of sun and cool nights and therefore encouraged a great aroma development. The harvest can be characterized by many various selective procedures in mid October and this rewarded our very precise handwork with perfect healthy grapes by limited quantity. The 2021 Rieslings present themselves very fine, pure with an enormous minerality, lively acidity and great fruit balance.
There is now a real run on the Grand Crus of Schloss Lieser, dry Moselle in the highest quality spectrum. The Juffer Sonnenuhr Riesling GG (Groses Gewachs) is stony, intense and fresh, with flint-like notes mixed with lemon aromas. In the mouth the wine is silky smooth, with crystal/mineral and salty notes with a spicy, well-structured and mineral aftertaste. Still very discreet today and will improve even further in a few years so decant in his younger years.
FACT: According to Meininger the best GG Mosel collection in 2020 and the GG Niederberg Helden is the best GG Mosel in 2020 according to Weinwisser!

The 2020 Juffer Sonnenuhr GG offers a delicate, finely flinty and coolish bouquet with ripe stone fruit aromas and delicate slate notes. It is round and lush, with great finesse and intense, perfectly ripe and elegant fruit and a feminine structure but with a great, intense and vivacious, energetic and saline finish. A fabulous JSU that is beautifully balanced and rich and intense in a refined way. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in July 2022.
