Description
This magnificent La Fabriseria once again embodies the excellent style of the Tedeschi winery, one of the very best wineries in Valpolicella. This La Fabriseria is made from late-harvest grapes from vineyards located at approximately 500 meters above sea level, with remarkably low nighttime temperatures. The Tedeschi family, renowned for their wines made from dried grapes, also aimed to achieve the absolute pinnacle of dry red wines made from grapes without any form of drying or Ripasso—fermenting on the skins of dried grapes. The Rosso della Fabriseria is the result. Only the estate's finest grapes were used for this wine. The indigenous Corvina grape makes up the majority of this exceptional wine. This grape is complemented by Rondinella and a dash of Cabernet Sauvignon for robustness. Maturation in oak barrels of various sizes completed the feat.
The Tedeschi La Fabriseria Valpolicella Classico Superiore is a superb wine, a beautiful ruby red in color, with aromas of intense cherry fruit, jam, plums, vanilla, and flowers. The palate offers a rich, complex flavor with abundant fruit and juice (cherries, blackberries), lovely lively acidity, a subtle bitterness, and hints of raisins, with light tannins. This wine is wonderfully ripe and well-balanced. A 92/100 Suckling and 92+ Vinous.

This shows aromas of dark cherries, white pepper and touches of tile and stemmy herbs. Juicy, with succulent fruit intersected by fresh acidity and chalky tannins. Very enjoyable. A blend of corvina, corvinone, rondinella and a bit of oseleta.

The 2019 Valpolicella Superiore La Fabriseria is a total pleasure on the nose, with an opulent blend of crushed black cherries complemented by cinnamon, clove and cocoa. This is silky and supple, with vibrant acidity that further enlivens its ripe red fruits and inner spice. The 2019 tapers off with amazing length but also freshness, leaving a subtle tug of fine tannins as raspberry and licorice hints slowly fade. This is a real crowd-pleaser.

The Tedeschi family farms 48 hectares of vineyards dedicated to Valpolicella and Amarone. This portfolio is designed around terroir first, focused on single vineyard styles that allow them to produce five labels of Amarone and five brands of Valpolicella. Only the Rispasso stands on its own, as Sabrina Tedeschi calls it “A regional wine.” While most of Valpolicella is only now speaking about the importance of crus, the Tedeschi family has been working hard to establish them, going back to 1964, when the first bottle of Amarone Monte Olmi was released. The vineyards are situated between the Classico zone and the valleys to the east. During my most recent trip I visited the Marternigo vineyard, with its 33 hectares of vines and varying expositions that run along the ridgeline of two valleys. Here the elevation ranges from 280 to 420 meters, and the soils are morainic (meaning the result of glacial sediments). It was a fantastic site to see. All of the parcels planted within Marternigo are between thick outcroppings of forest, which, along with its high elevations, helps to balance the warm conditions of recent vintages. One can’t help but feel that these locations are the region’s future. My visit also included a selection of old vintages that showed how well the Tedeschi wines mature over time. This is a great portfolio to explore for readers looking to find a sense of place in Valpolicella.
